RTX Technology Research Center's Physical Sciences Department is seeking an innovative engineer/scientist with expertise in polymer matrix composite (PMC) materials, manufacturing, and automation. The candidate is intended to be an integral member of dynamic teams focused on creating and advancing novel materials and manufacturing technologies for both aerospace and defense applications.
What You Will Do:
Work with multi-disciplinary teams to execute complex internal and external technology contracts
Support the expansion and implementation of the PMC-related technology development strategy
Initiate concepts, writing proposals, marketing the concepts either internally or externally
Generate intellectual properties and publish/present technical findings
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or related field and 8+ years of related work experience or a Master's degree with 5+ years of related work experience or a PhD with 3+ years of related work experience.
- Strong experience in automated manufacturing processes and robotics for polymer matrix composites and a holistic understanding of the PMC and automation technology field and aerospace/defense applications, knowledge of the key players in the field, contacts to them, i.e., a strong network
- Strong management skills in executing multi-disciplinary projects, and providing timely deliverables to customers
- Self-initiation of concepts, writing proposals, marketing the concepts either internally or externally and expand technology portfolio in PMC-related area and have experience publishing papers and patents
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Working experience with various composite materials and processes, process sensing, material characterization, and testing
- Experience on composite manufacturing scale up and technology transition from R&D to manufacturing.
- A working understanding of machine learning and artificial Intelligence (ML/AI)
- Working experience with additive manufacturing, composite manufacturing and structural simulation.
- Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external customers including both technical experts, various levels of managers, and functional personnel

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
