Job Description:

Opportunity to work in Raytheon's Materials and Process Engineering Department. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to engage subject matter experts (SME) and perform hands-on-testing of adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites, metals, and various other production materials. The primary responsibilities will include assessing materials for conformance to both internal and external specifications using various forms of instrumental analysis including spectroscopy, chromatography, and thermal analysis. This position requires a broad range of knowledge in chemistry, analytical instrumentation, and technical specification interpretation. Tasks will require careful attention to detail and the ability to consistently perform highly technical work.

The Chemical and Material Engineer II job is in Tucson, AZ and the position is onsite.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 6+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
  • Experience in chemistry and using laboratory equipment (i.e. FTIR, TGA, DSC, SEM/EDS, ovens, thermometers, calipers, and microscope)
  • Experience in material testing (i.e. Hardness, adhesion tests, sample preparation procedures, cross sectioning)
  • Experience in Infrared Spectroscopy, and/or Chromatography, and/or Thermal Analysis
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Equivalent Laboratory Equipment MOS is a 68K MOS or 91S MOS in the Army
  • Equivalent Material Testing MOS is a 6070 in the Marine Corps
  • Understanding of analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis. Able to troubleshoot analytical instrument problems and interpret data.
  • Experience in engineering technical writing and specifications (internal or commercial or military) .
  • Needs to be able to communicate with parties within and outside of own discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Must set high quality standard and be action oriented
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills, strong social skills, and ability to build solid relationships with a vast array of team members.
  • High emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skillset
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
