Do you have jumbo dreams of maximizing your career while developing display systems for the flight decks of large commercial aircraft? Come join our team as a Systems Engineering Intern for Summer 2025 in the Avionics Air Transport Displays department. You will have the opportunity to work with other systems and software engineers to develop flight deck display systems used on platforms such as the 747 Jumbo-Jet, 737 MAX, and 787 Dreamliner, among others. This internship opportunity will be part of a team focused on creating solutions for our engineering lab simulation environments.

What You Will Do:

  • Work with one other engineering intern on two projects throughout the summer, in addition to receiving guidance from technical mentors.
  • Summer Project #1: Create an enhanced PC-based ARINC 615 Data Load solution with download capability.
  • Summer Project #2: Create an ARINC 708 Weather Radar simulator. You will create the PC-based software that interfaces with an ARINC 708 card.
  • Also have an opportunity to interact with other systems and software engineers in the department and gain exposure to the life cycle of creating and updating total flight deck display systems.

What You Will Learn:

  • Be paired with a "copilot", or technical mentor, and work alongside the "copilot" and other team members to experience a real industry project.
  • Gain knowledge and exposure to the systems engineering life cycle for avionics systems, including performing technical planning/estimating, system integration, and system verification and validation activities, for total flight deck display systems.
  • Learn about and apply industry standards and processes, such as SAE ARP-4754, RTCA DO-178, ARINC 615, and ARINC 708.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Understanding of network protocols.
  • Some experience with and/or coursework in at least one software development language such as C, C++, Python, or Java.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
