RTX BBN, a noted high-tech research & development company, seeks a creative, organized, people-centered candidate to fill the role of Associate Director, Research in our Physical Sciences & Systems business unit.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create the vision and secure funding for new concepts.
- Lead multiple, multi-million-dollar R&D programs and teams.
- Plan and execute field tests on land or at sea.
- Regularly meet or exceed the metrics of challenging R&D programs.
- Handle complex technical challenges while helping researchers focus on the technical work to be achieved, and the big picture of their efforts.
- Travel to partner, customer and corporate sites.
Basic Qualifications:
- An advanced degree in physical sciences or engineering (e.g., physics, electrical engineering) with 15+ years of experience as a Principal Investigator or technical lead on R&D programs.
- 15+ years of experience related to physical sciences, sensing, and signal processing, acoustics, photonics, fiber optics, geophysics, or related discipline.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Fluent in at least one commonly used programming language such as Python, Matlab, C, or C++.
- Experience forming and leading diverse teams of scientists and engineers through full lifecycle of technology development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
- PhD in physical sciences or engineering (e.g., physics, electrical engineering).
- Successful capture of new R&D contracts from US Government customers such as DARPA, DHS, or the US Navy.
- Previous experience working within research and development engineering organizations.

The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
