The Advanced Materials Lab, which is one of the sections in the Materials and Process Engineering Department, is looking for a materials scientist or engineer to join our team as a summer intern. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to engage subject matter experts and process materials and perform mechanical and materials testing to support development, design, and failure analysis activities associated with a wide range of product applications. Tasks will require critical thinking to solve challenging problems and careful attention to detail on procedures, testing of materials, and documentation of results. Collaboration with design & material engineers and subject matter experts is required. Candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements. This candidate will be part of a multi-disciplined team.

What You Will Do
- You will be working with other scientists and engineers performing materials processing and testing.
- Your work will focus primarily on ceramics, and you will also learn more about other materials categories as well (metals, polymers, etc.)
- You will gain experience with hands on lab work, processing ceramic materials, and performing characterization/testing on a variety of materials.
- You will be expected to maintain records of your work in lab notebooks or other systems (paper or digital).
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering or related field.
- Experience with laboratory equipment such as balances and other measurement tools.
- Academic or professional experience with materials science/engineering.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Class projects, professional internships, or academic research demonstrating the ability to apply technical course work in materials science/engineering.
- Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- ABET is the preferred accreditation standard.

- This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor's (or higher) degree program and will be at minimum, entering their Sophomore by the start of summer 2025.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
