The Royal Caribbean Group's Digital Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Lead, Software Engineering Technology reporting to the Sr. Manager, Software Engineering.

This position will work on-site in Miami, Florida.

Position Summary / Job Purpose:

The Lead Engineer is responsible for providing leadership to an engineering team tasked with the design, development, and maintenance of Digital Technology systems and software applications. The Lead Engineer uses technical knowledge to solve business problems, by means of a systematic and disciplined approach. This position employs software, hardware, and/or communication technologies to accomplish assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, and implements computer systems and software applications
  • Provide leadership to a team of engineers working on common goals
  • Creates technical design specifications
  • Participates in the testing and certification process
  • Supports, operates, and maintains computer systems and software applications
  • Monitors system and application performance and performs predictive maintenance
  • Uses Agile methodologies while developing software applications
  • Ensure that team is meeting product owner's goals
  • Interprets, refines, and applies methods and procedures in accordance with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Information Technology industry standards and best practices as defined by Royal Caribbean Group.

Qualifications and Education:

Hard Skills:
  • 5+ years of development experience
  • 3+ years of Java EE experience
  • Experience with GraphQL (GraphQL Federation knowledge is a plus)
  • Experience with Spring/Spring Boot (reactive programming a plus)
  • Experience with Microservice architecture and design patterns (event-driven a plus)
  • Experience with relational databases and stored procedure design (NoSQL like Couchbase a plus)
  • Kubernetes, Docker Containers, GitOps and Jenkins experience a plus
  • Experience with cloud-native monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk or AppDynamics

Soft skills:
  • Knowledge of computer science or engineering technical concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
  • Able to communicate and implement technical solutions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with technical peers.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team. May assist and guide junior staff, as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a certain degree of creativity with analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong with methodologies, tools, best practices, and processes within specific area of responsibility
