Position Summary:

The shore-side Lead, Laundry Operations will assist the Director, Housekeeping Operations shore-side to ensure consistency and effectiveness of the Laundry Operation across the entire Royal Caribbean Group fleet. This individual will assist in developing and implementing strategies to maximize laundry efficiencies. Will have a strong focus on linen and terry inventory & Budget Control, work processes and workplace safety. This role further ensures the effective handling of laundry services, including uniforms, guest linens, and towels, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational Management
  • Oversee daily laundry operations on all ships in the fleet
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laundry processes, ensuring consistency across all vessels.
  • Monitor and manage laundry equipment maintenance, ensuring timely repairs and replacements to prevent operational disruptions.
  • Coordinate with shipboard management to ensure laundry services meet both operational and guest needs.
  • Develops, manages, and oversees the Fleet-wide Laundry Maintenance and Laundry Replacement processes for both Newbuild, Dry Docks and existing ships.
  • Manages the vendor shipboard access processes
  • Follows-up on daily, weekly and monthly laundry reports received from RCCL Laundry Masters and ensure standards are met.
  • Is aware of, and/or acquires the necessary knowledge to comply with the ship's standard operation, to assist guests and crewmembers with inquiries.

Staff Management
  • Manage and support the Fleet Laundry Master and the shipboard laundry Teams
  • Manages the hiring processes for laundry management positions
  • Mentor and Train Fleet Laundry Master and the shipboard laundry Teams
  • Ensure that the ships are staff and manned according to Par level and report shortages
  • Work with recruitment team to fill any shortages.

Quality Control
  • Ensure all laundry processes meet company quality standards, including cleanliness, presentation, and proper handling of fabrics.
  • Oversee the FLM's inspections and audits of laundry operations to identify and resolve any issues or inefficiencies.
  • Implement quality assurance programs and handle guest complaints related to laundry services promptly and professionally.
  • Is aware of, and/or acquires the necessary knowledge to comply with the ship's standard operation, to assist guests and crewmembers with inquiries.
  • Assists, supports & provides guidance to shipboard teams in the following areas: Linen & Terry Inventories par management, Chemical Usage, Laundry Safety

Inventory and Supply Management
  • Oversee inventory levels of laundry detergents, chemicals, linens, and other supplies, ensuring cost-effective procurement and usage.
  • Develop and manage relationships with suppliers and vendors to secure high-quality products and services at competitive prices.
  • Monitor and control inventory to prevent wastage and ensure timely replenishment.

Health and Safety Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including proper handling and storage of chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect staff and guests, including regular safety drills and training.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices, integrating them into laundry operations.

Financial Management
  • Develop and manage the laundry department budget, including labor, supplies, and maintenance costs.
  • Analyze financial reports and operational data to identify areas for cost savings and operational improvements.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on laundry operations, performance metrics, and financial status to senior management.
  • On a yearly budget for Laundry and Housekeeping Operations of $40M, this position assists with tracking financial spend and highlight over & under spending to the Director, Housekeeping Operations. This position also assists with establishing & tracking Capital Expenditure Projects, as well as invoice coding and invoice approval.
  • Identifies potential areas of improvement and savings in close collaboration with the Fleet Laundry Managers with focus on efficiency and effectiveness of chemicals, equipment, and procedures to achieve and exceed cleanliness & service standards in the Fleet.

Guest Service
  • Ensure that laundry services contribute positively to guest experiences, including prompt and courteous service.
  • Address and resolve guest complaints or special requests related to laundry services with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Accessibility team to coordinate special laundry needs or requests - related to chemical related allergens

Innovation and Improvement
  • Researches and introduces new equipment and laundry processes. Continuously seek and implement improvements in laundry operations, technology, and processes to enhance efficiency and guest satisfaction.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and innovations, recommending and introducing new technologies or practices as appropriate.

Qualifications and Education:

  • 5 - 7 years relevant & equivalent Laundry Operational Management in a luxury hotel, or onboard a premium cruise ship.
  • A degree from a college or university in Hospitality Management or related field.
  • Solid, clear, and precise written & verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization is essential.
  • Fluent English language skills, other languages considered as an advantage.
  • Must possess sound knowledge and have attended mandatory Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) training.
  • Ability to travel 40% of the time both international and domestic.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of chemicals, proper cleaning techniques, requirements, handling and use of equipment. Ability to evaluate a situation quickly and determine the proper procedures to avoid potential problems.
  • Possesses working knowledge of AMOS, Internet, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, MS Outlook or related programs, and the ability to navigate within these software packages to provide detailed and quality reports to shore side management.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships amongst various groups of individuals, across a multi-cultural departmental environment.
  • Possess solid planning skills and the ability to teach, council and train staff. Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications, financial reports, legal documentations, and government regulations (USPH / SHIPSAN).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, co-workers, and shipboard employees.

Physical Requirements:

The employee may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations, and may lift, push, pull or move 10-15 pounds. This position may regularly travel domestically or internationally. Visual requirements include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
