The Royal Caribbean Group's Data Governance team has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time Lead, Data Catalog Analyst reporting to the Data Governance Manager.

This position will work on-site in Miramar, Florida and commute between Miramar and Miami office locations as required.

Position Summary:

The Lead, Data Catalog Analyst will be responsible for leading RCG's data catalog initiatives to establish and maintain a cohesive and effective data cataloging system, integral to the company's broader data governance strategy and objectives. This role will be key in the enhancement of data accessibility and comprehension, by ensuring efficient utilization across the company.

This role will be directly involved in the planning, development, and curation of the Enterprise Data Catalog across project initiatives, resulting in evolving organizational understanding and approach, and accomplish data catalog adoption and business use. Also, this positive will drive improving the availability, searchability and quality of data that is made available throughout the organization through the data catalog as part of a larger data strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading and administering the enterprise data catalog system. This involves applying best practices for structuring, curating, and managing the Business Glossary and Data Catalog. In addition to overseeing the administration and operations of the data catalog and liaise with the necessary support resources to ensure access and availability of the platform.
  • Act as a Data Catalog product lead:
    • Collaborate with Data Governance team members to build comprehensive acceptance criteria, identifying and elevating any need for additional research to define future feature design.
    • Adhere to an Agile iterative approach breaking down epics into features and user stories, driving the team towards a Minimal Viable Product (MVP).
    • Lead and prioritize feature development roadmaps, ensuring all necessary processes and procedures are followed to manage risk.
    • Work autonomously in an agile environment.
    • Articulate a succinct product roadmap to deliver business value and share with stakeholders, elevating team's results and becoming a product matter expert.
  • Provide daily operational support of the data catalog including active directory role management, maintaining data, and capability enhancements.
  • Proactive in keeping metadata information up to date across several disparate sources and ETL processes, encouraging data custodians and data users to actively participate in the socialization and evolution of our data management and governance strategy.
  • Establish and document procedures to harvest and curate data assets, including classifying mastered and reference data, identifying the authoritative source, and what and where sensitive data resides.
  • Support the implementation of metadata governance frameworks and standards, ensuring alignment with business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the strategy and own value delivery of the Data Catalog by acting as an intermediary between the business community and the technical community working with business clients, data stewards, and IT project teams to influence and drive the Enterprise Data Catalog.
  • Develop and publish metrics for metadata completeness and data catalog usage, fostering its wider adoption.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the data catalog, develop and disseminate training materials, and provide guidance and best practice suggestions to users, promoting the socialization of data cataloging. Facilitate and collaborate with data stewards to define enterprise business terms and metrics. Configure and maintain enterprise templates for various data and analytical objects including data dictionary, business glossary, metrics glossary, articles, etc.
  • Partner with both the business and technical SMEs to establish relationships between business assets, such as business terms, and data or technical assets, such as policy and reports.
  • Partner with data engineers, product managers, and technology resources to develop the data catalog capabilities and provide visibility across the delta lake (Databricks Unity Catalog) and BI (Power BI) reporting applications, ensuring visibility of lineage from end-to-end ingest metadata.
  • Prioritize data sources for ingestion and schemes/tables and drive identification, ownership, and onboarding for priority datasets.
  • Responsible for ensuring development work is cataloged properly in the data catalog after it is released to production and subsequently maintained.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates require a working knowledge of Data Architecture, Data Modeling, Data Warehousing, and Business Intelligence concepts as it relates to Data Governance & Master Data Management, including:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Systems, MIS (Master of Library and Information Sciences), or related field with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience in application design and implementation.
  • Experience in Data Governance concepts including master and metadata management.
  • 4+ years of experience in data related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in Metadata Tools, specifically Collibra Data Intelligence and Informatica CDCG:
    • Experience designing and maintaining business glossary, data lineage, data relationships, and data stewardship.
    • Experience inventorying or cataloging data assets
    • Experience designing data solutions to include taxonomies, technical and business metadata, data classification and sensitivity.
    • Experience integrating metadata between platforms.
    • Experience implementing workflows and APIs in Collibra Data Intelligence and Informatica CDC
  • Experience with applications in cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with ETL/ELT design and implementations.
  • Experience with the AWS cloud platform and other tools including Databricks, Power BI are desirable.
  • Experience working in or leading cross functional teams or projects with business and IT stewards related to metadata, data quality or governance.
  • Experience as, or knowledge of the data stewardship role, requirements, and responsibilities; or as a subject matter expert (SME) with prior experience in the context of governance and catalog.
  • Product management experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Evidence of data catalog and/or data governance framework and training.
  • Ability to translate business data governance requirements into technical requirements to meet multiple business needs.
  • Ability to understand and represent business needs in requirements, track and resolve progress and issues, provide timely updates and escalations.
  • Strong knowledge for data, analytics and enablement of online platforms or service including expertise with SQL, preferred.
  • Advanced Excel functions and formulas
  • Familiarity with GDPR & CCPA/CPRA regulations.
  • Ability to articulate information, findings, and complex data solutions concisely and with clarity to management.
  • Strong ability to work and assist the user community with onboarding to data governance platforms.
  • Ability to lead functional development and tool onboarding meetings documenting decisions and issues.
  • Ability to influence peers and Senior Leaders by articulating roadmaps, functionality, and clear organizational benefits of the data catalog, as supported by data and KPIs.
  • Strong analytical, creative problem solving, and process management skills.
  • Strong business intuition, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent oral, written & presentation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to operate within multiple time zones.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize own work effectively to achieve set end results.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team with a positive attitude for team goals.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse set of tech and non-tech partners.
