The AVP, Product Development Finance is responsible for the financial oversight of high value, fast moving projects including but not limited to, private destinations, newbuilds, ship modernizations, from ideation to completion of construction. The role is responsible in overseeing the development of the business cases and financial budgeting and management of strategic land, private destination, newbuild and ship modernization projects for Royal Caribbean International. This includes budgeting and monitoring/tracking of capital spend (land, design, development, capital labor), as well as overseeing the business case development of these projects - revenue projections, deployment, operating expenses, capacity, among others.

This AVP role will support the Vice President of RCI Finance in the management, leadership and oversight of the Brand's product development portfolio, driving long-term profitable growth, through the oversight of a complex portfolio of initiatives. The AVP will be the primary finance point of contact for Executive and Senior leadership at both the Corporate and Brand level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the financial leadership for the Product Development financial portfolio, including but not limited to private destinations, newbuilds and ship modernizations.
  • Strategic thought partner with leadership team on where/how to invest capital and financial implications
  • Review of new projects for financial viability
  • Oversight of business cases of each project, including deployment options, guest counts, capital projections, including construction estimation, revenue projections, operating expense etc.
  • Oversight of creation and maintenance financial models of product development portfolio, including, but not limited to, large scale development projects
  • Oversight of financial and time tracking of private destination portfolio
  • Key financial contact for corporate and brand leadership for product development portfolio
  • Oversight of journey of each project from ideation, land evaluation and valuation, business case development, capital approval and budget and time tracking
  • Periodic updates, via presentations and meetings, on status of projects, including timing and spend
  • Bring creative ideas that meet needs, solve problems, and drive the brand product portfolio strategy
  • Direct oversight and guidance to direct report to ensure team is informed of brand strategies targets and have the tools and resources to execute on such goals.
  • Develop a diverse set of high performing team members in support of achieving all goals. Provide overall direction and oversight and motivate staff to perform at the highest level.
  • Support the VP, Finance by leading financial oversight of the Product Development portfolio
  • Promote brand leadership values and maintain a strong collaborative culture.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with 15+ years of work experience. Development and/or Construction Finance a plus.
  • Minimum 10-15 years financial management experience for a large corporation. MBA preferred.
  • Experience managing portfolios with annual budgets exceeding $200M.
  • Experience in financial oversight of construction projects.
  • Candidate must possess strong written and oral communication skills and be able to work effectively with all levels of personnel. Strong PC skills are required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of land valuation.
  • Strong understanding of design and development phasing of construction projects to facilitate business model valuations
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, specifically as it relates to land acquisition, development and construction projects
  • Strong leadership skills and proven experience in leading a large team of professionals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills a must. Clear and precise communication at all levels of the organization essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strength in communicating in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
  • Strong ability to manage clients and partners.
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Software proficiency in tools such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project required.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical, financial and spreadsheet modeling skills.
  • Energetic self-starter who can take initiative, figure things out and lead through influence rather than direct control
  • Leads through inquiry rather than advocacy.
  • Positive attitude with demonstrated history of success in project analysis, tracking and implementation.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in leading and working with a team of professionals.
  • Ability to form strong working relationships with operating personnel across the company and lead in a matrix environment.
  • Successful team management and development, including constructive feedback delivery and collaborative work environment creation.
  • Detail-oriented management with proven ability to multi-task and manage time / resources against competing priorities.
  • Analytical: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and opportunities of alternative solutions and conclusions.
  • Complex Problem Solving: Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop options and implement solutions.
  • Presentation: Using computer skills and communication style to create, manipulate, edit, and communicate slide presentations. Understanding end-state and the best way to present a story in a logical and analytical fashion to achieve desired results.
  • Negotiating and Persuasion: Bringing others together to try to reconcile differences and persuading others to your point of view.
  • Financial Modeling: Evaluating data, determining optimal way to spend to accomplish company goals.
