We’re a growing team serving a highly ambitious engineering organization. The Reliability Engineering team provides a specialization within engineering focused on designing, engineering, evolving, and safely making changes to large-scale distributed systems; these systems are often composed of disparate components which are each individually complex. In the process of that work, they are also responsible for analyzing, repairing, and preventing unexpected issues that emerge from such systems.

The Reliability team currently has three significant areas of focus

  1. Building and iterating on our company wide software system that tracks all outages/SEVs for the organization. A sophisticated tool where all product/infra teams collaborate to identify, remediate, and track significant outages.
  2. Track, measure and monitor our most critical workflows for the business, identifying issues early and being a critical component of long term reliable performance of these core workflows.
  3. Develop and build software through enhancing existing libraries, devising new tooling, and iterating to bring reliability at scale to Robinhood.

As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will help guide and lead company wide, strategic initiatives and ensure Robinhood is readily available to bring our mission to life.

The role is located in the office location(s) listed on this job description which will align with our in-office working environment. Please connect with your recruiter for more information regarding our in-office philosophy and expectations.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and Mentor: Manage and mentor a talented team. Provide guidance, career development, and support to help them excel in their roles.
  • Strategic Planning: Work with senior leadership to define the roadmap for the reliability team. Set clear goals and objectives aligned with company objectives and ensure timely execution.
  • Technical Leadership: Drive technical excellence and innovation within the team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure best practices are followed in software development, reliability engineering, and operational excellence.
  • Collaboration: Partner with product teams, infrastructure teams, and other stakeholders to integrate reliability best practices into the development lifecycle. Act as a liaison between engineering and other departments to ensure alignment on reliability goals.
  • Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of reliability projects. Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Operational Excellence: Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response frameworks to proactively identify and mitigate reliability issues. Drive initiatives to improve system performance, scalability, and fault tolerance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of learning and knowledge sharing within the team. Encourage experimentation with new technologies and methodologies to drive innovation and efficiency.

What you bring

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams that work extremely cross functionally.
