The Innovation Engineer, Decarb role is a high-impact position responsible for the innovation, creation, deployment, and proof of cutting edge, disruptive heat pump technologies to be used by global heat pump water heaters and air conditioning product platforms of Rheem. This role is based in the Global Center of Excellence, Advanced Heatpump Technology Program, and works closely with local Product Development Engineering Teams and cross-functional groups to ensure that design for manufacturability, customer-centric design, early-stage VOC, and serviceability are integrated into technology elements and concepts.

The role is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a highly motivated and creative engineer to make a significant impact on the development of next-generation heat pump technologies in the world. This position will be located in Montgomery, AL.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Technical owner for advanced heatpump technology platform projects (Air and Water) under the supervision of Principal Decarb Engineer through the Technology Development Process and Technology Readiness Level (TRL) milestones.
• Technology integrator for successful customization and deployment of advanced technology concepts into heatpump product platforms until Approval Gate.
• Leverage/use simulation tools and Advanced Technology and Simulations (ATS) team capabilities to create virtual prototypes and virtual testing of Advanced Technology Concepts
• Create heat transfer, thermodynamic, structural, and mathematical modeling of Advanced Technology Concepts for virtual testing prior to physical testing stages.
• File early-stage IP and expand IP portfolio of Rheem's strategic technology domains.
• Attend strategic partnership research activities, such as collaborations with CEEE, ONRL, Argon National Labs, and other university research activities.
• Plan next generation heatpump technology platform packets and develop and execute design sprint plans up to TRL4 maturity.
• Leverage inhouse (RheemLabs Studio) and outsourced other rapid prototyping, testing, and validation capabilities for TRL progression of the advanced technology concepts.
• Coordinate creation of prototype designs while providing supervisory directions to Mechanical Design Engineers and RheemLabs Technicians.
• Act as the technology liaison in NPI core teams from post Define and Pre-Approval Gate to customize design integration of technology elements into product platforms.
• Attend worldwide industry, university, and technical conferences, research high end and emerging technologies for mechanical and electrical design elements of high performance heatpump product platforms.
• Work with suppliers to specify new key enabling technologies and/or components that may also entail custom developments. Remain abreast of emerging technologies and competing alternatives.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to decide course of action, taking calculated risks, developing strategic plans, journey mapping, brainstorming and requirements for gathering/definition.

Qualifications:

WHAT YOU NEED

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant discipline required.

• 3 years of progressive experience and leadership roles in technology, engineering, or product design.

• Contemporary and diverse experience in engineering fields such as mechanical, heat transfer, vapor compression systems, and manufacturing systems.

• Proven track record of successfully building and delivering complex products involving multiple engineering disciplines.

• Proven track record of creativity, brining new concepts to life, solutioning of difficult problems.

• Ability to deliver quality results with minimal guidance and oversight.

• Experience and understating in commercialization journey of consumer or commercial products is a plus.

• Effective skills in communications, persuasion, and negotiation to influence others and navigate complex relationship scenarios inclusive of those without direct reporting relationships.

• Experience developing new opportunities to identify cutting edge technologies to enable business objectives and POF.

• Comfort with elements of ambiguity and change, and innate desire for bringing new concepts to life.

• Superior analytical skills, quantitative assessment, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills with attention to details.

• Demonstrated ability in planning, multiple tasking, and project leadership as essential to the agile design approach.

• Demonstrated practice of continued learning, acquiring new skills, and possession of a creative aptitude.

HOW TO STAND OUT

• Preferably master's degree in mechanical or related engineering field.

• Previous experience in a product development and manufacturing environment is a plus.

• Demonstrate understanding of simulation tools, technical depth in physics and mathematical modeling of engineering systems.

• Professional Engineer License is a plus.
