The CAD Designer III working under limited supervision, performs 3D solid modeling and 2D production drawing creation and revision under engineering direction from drawing markups and engineering sketches in accordance with accepted drafting and tooling standards. As assigned, provides basic technical guidance to and coordination of off-site CAD team efforts. Possesses considerable knowledge of manufacturing tooling and process capability. This position also coordinates the ECN changes and CIP projects in conjunction with the Product Engineers.

This position will serve our HTPG Division, located in Scottsboro, AL. This is an on-site position and you will perform this job entirely at our Scottsboro office.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Apply drafting and computer-aided design (CAD) standards to complex component and assembly drawings checking own drawings and drawings of others for clarity, completeness, and conformity to drafting, computer-aided design (CAD), and tooling standards.
• Perform complex 3D and 2D design assignments incorporating sheet metal, tubing, cabling / wiring, final and sub-assemblies and component parts based on notes, markups, engineering sketches and other data checking for clarity, completeness and conformity to CAD and drafting standards and design form, fit and function .
• Prepare submittal drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Provide technical guidance and coordinate the CAD efforts of off-site designer/detailer team.
• Access and interpret a complex bill of material (BOM) and apply a BOM to verify components of a complex design.
• Assign and properly record detailed part numbers.
• Access, interpret and apply a complex design change notice to verify design configuration.
• Operate computer systems to create and manage task and project schedules and project and process documentation in accordance with company policy to meet project requirements for data acquisition, task result recording, project status reporting and BOM review.
• Provide regular verbal and written reports summarizing project activity, conditions, procedures, results, conclusions, and recommendations to project leaders.
• Assist in the creation of BOM details for assemblies, sub-assemblies, and fabricated components.
• Assist in the construction and the assembly of customized products and prototypes.
• Support the production start-up of new products.
• Coordinate the PLM ECN process for product changes.
• Coordinate the CIP process for cost improvement projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

WHAT YOU NEED:

• Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in drafting or technical field.

• Minimum of 5-10 years related experience in solid modeling

• Proficient in 3D CAD modeling

• Good communication skills required to interface with both internal and external customers, sales personnel, and shop employees.

• Must have computer skills in common office software

• Strong mathematics skills (must be capable of applying concepts of statistical inference, fractions, percentages, and ratios to practical situations)

• Strong mechanical aptitude

• Excellent problem-solving skills

• Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team-oriented development environment

• Must be self-motivated and capable of performing with limited supervision

HOW TO STAND OUT:

• Experience in air conditioning/refrigeration related manufacturing operations.

• Experience with ERP/MRP engineering functions required for BOM and ECN processes

• Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, electrical schematic skills, and piping techniques.
