The ATI Engineering Co-op - Hardware is r esponsible for the support of the ATI Controls Hardware Engineering team in the electrical design of embedded microprocessor-based controls for HVAC and water heating products. Typical duties will include controls electrical validation testing, building test fixtures, controls failure analysis and component qualification testing and expanding to taking on control proof-of-concept design work in support of controls development activities. This is an important position on the electronic controls team within Rheem's Advanced Technology Integration organization, providing advanced technologies and systems solutions for Rheem's Water Heating, Air Conditioning, HTPG, Eemax, Friedrich, and Raypak business units.

This position will serve our ATI Division, located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Assist test engineers in the design and building of test fixtures, in executing controls hardware failure analysis and electrical validation testing, and performing component qualification tests
• Develop controls designs with associated circuits, schematics, design analysis, bill of materials, assembly drawings, and other required documentation by using common design tools and ECAD software.
• Work with cross-functional teams through direct interactions and team meetings in developing and translating new concepts into applications.
• Develop design concepts or models, oversee prototype construction, and conduct performance testing to determine practical feasibility of concepts.
• Participate in formal design reviews of electronic controls requirements, schematics, layouts, as well as FMEA, DFM, DFT, and other related analyses.
• Prepare and support the release of engineering requirements, design, and qualification documentation.
• Continue to develop professionally in both formal training/coursework and self-study.

Qualifications:

WHAT YOU NEED:
  • • Enrolled in a course of study toward a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field.

    • Minimum 0-2 years of related experience

    • Experience with electronic controls including analog and digital circuit design, prototyping, and testing

    • Experience with electronic analysis methodologies and associated instrumentation

    • Able to work successfully with multiple departments such as R&D, marketing, manufacturing, service engineering, suppliers, and customers

    Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    • Familiarity with multiple communications media and protocol such as wired, wireless, optic, CAN, BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote

    • Must possess and demonstrate proficiency in the following competency areas:

    Preferred Education & Experience:

    • Experience with controls designs utilizing Renesas RX23X or related microprocessors, LCDs, RS-485 communications, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and/or cellular communications, low power, and analog circuitry.

    • Experience utilizing a formal Product Development Process

    • Schematic capture, design analysis, and PCB layout with OrCAD, Altium, or related tools

    • Software architecture and programming for embedded microprocessor based electronic controls
