In your role as a Shopify Architect at Red Van, your main responsibility is delivering highly converting and engaging commerce solutions (B2C, D2C, B2B, POS) to our customers.   The services and solutions delivered as a part of the engagements you lead must create value, be sustainable, scalable and integrated in the eyes of the critical stakeholders within our customer organizations  Your success is dependent on broad technical acumen, historical experiences in the  Shopify ecosystem and build upon both your successes and more challenging experiences.  Previous technical leadership with Enterprise businesses (either as a direct employee, contractor or service provider) is highly sought after.  In addition, direct, hands-on development work building, supporting and maintaining Shopify Apps is required.

Please note that  Red Van Architects take on direct development tasks (tickets), perform code reviews, share learnings and best practices while also educating and elevating the knowledge within our customers. Critical thinking, problem solving, escalation management and collaboration are occurring daily at the direction of our Architects as well.

 

Responsibilities - You will:
 

  • Architect solutions by integrating Shopify Plus, Shopify Search, Shopify Point-of-Sale, and supporting technologies.
  • Extend the Shopify platform through the development of custom apps that meet the needs of Red Van’s enterprise customers, including advanced features such as automated workflow management, content aggregation, syndication, and social media integration.
  • Review, recommend and support public apps on behalf of Red Van’s customers that meet the functional requirements they specify.
  • Produce excellent code while collaborating with internal development resources at the client.
  • Partner with other Red Vanners for QA, Project Management, and troubleshooting development issues.
  • Participate in stand-up meetings, conference calls, track your time, and work through tickets assigned to you within a Jira instance. Lots of tickets.
  • Work remotely with the distributed team at Red Van as well as client resources, being available during core business hours.
  • Act with urgency and professionalism when interfacing with client resources. Don’t worry, our Project Managers step in to handle the primary communication and resolve conflicts with clients.
  • Serve as a Shopify subject matter expert & mentor within Red Van, offering guidance to senior developers and architects on design and implementation best practices.

Ideally you:

 
  • Have 5+ years of experience as a team lead or architect for project-based delivery to software development and systems integration work.
  • Have architected and delivered at least three large-scale, global Shopify implementations.
  • Have experience in design, development, and implementation of Shopify Plus Experience with MEAN Stack development (MongoDB, Angular, Node, and Express) or similar frameworks.
  • Have significant experience working as part of a small, focused team as the primary technical expert and advocate.
  • Appreciate web standards and accessibility (e.g. WCAG Standards, screen reader support, semantic HTML).
  • Have significant experience working with designers to create and maintain style guides & CSS standards across different applications.
  • Are excited to play a critical and evolving role in helping drive technical initiatives to enhance end-user and developer experiences.
  • Possess analytical, problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills as well as creativity and attention to detail; familiarity with database management, development environment, program testing, and other related software.
  • Ability to lead, collaborate and write code building website frameworks alongside other developers, through challenging long-term projects as the software architect.
 

Compensation:

  • $125,000 to $175,000 USD

Red Van Workshop is a distributed company, so your geographic location within the USA is not critical: your office is your choice. Occasional travel availability to client locations may be necessary, so reasonable proximity to an airport with good commercial service is required. Most of our crew travels rarely, at most a few days per quarter.
