Summary:

Rakuten is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our tax team to lead the preparation of Rakuten's income tax provision and compliance reporting for the Rakuten International North America businesses. The senior tax manager will report to the Tax Director of Operations Americas and will manage all aspects of US tax provision and US income tax compliance as well as providing support for ad hoc projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and prepare the quarterly and annual tax provision according to ASC 740.
  • Provide technical tax accounting guidance to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP requirements.
  • Document and maintain tax positions and technical accounting memoranda.
  • Ensure compliance with Japanese Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of the US income tax compliance including Federal and state tax filings. Prepare quarterly estimated tax calculations and annual extensions.
  • Manage information gathering and reporting processes across multiple business units
  • Build and foster relationships with cross-functional teams within and outside the tax department.
  • Partner with external advisors on variety of tax projects.
  • Research, monitor, and assess tax implications and technical positions related to complex transactions and legislative changes.
  • Manage income tax audits and respond to tax inquiries from various jurisdictions.
  • Manage special projects such as R&D tax credit study, Section 174 R&D capitalization, etc.

Requirements:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and apply them to practical situations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required
  • CPA and/or Master's Degree in Accounting/Tax is preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant corporate taxation experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting for income tax (ASC 740) and tax compliance
  • Thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and can adapt quickly to evolving needs
  • Knowledge in US international tax concepts (GILTI, BEAT, etc.) is a plus.
  • Background implementing tax provision software is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the base compensation for this role to be within the range shown below. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.

USD $99,306.00 - $171,612.00 annually
