SUMMARY:

We are a dedicated group of 17 product designers, UX researchers, and UX writers working together to build the most rewarding place to shop. With a strong focus on collaboration, insights, and design excellence, our team strives to create a rewarding, seamless and engaging experience for all our members.

We're looking for a Senior Product Designer with strong skills in visual and motion design to join our Product Design Team. This designer will sit on a dedicated team that works to create high-quality, delightful interactions and memorable interactive moments that elevate the level of design craft in our products.

Our ideal candidate will have experience designing memorable motion interactions for end users in a product context, expert familiarity with design systems, and visual design skills displayed in portfolio showcasing beautiful digital experiences across web and native mobile apps. Your expertise in motion and visual design will be essential in bringing our products to life, communicating concepts to stakeholders, and enhancing the overall user experience.

You should be a strong team player, comfortable working closely with developers and product leads, and contribute to setting a high bar for design across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design Dynamic Experiences: Craft motion UX behaviors, systems, and animations for various product platforms (Web & Native apps) to enhance user interactions and provide a dynamic, engaging experience.
  • Develop Prototypes: Build wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes to effectively communicate design concepts, gather feedback, and iterate on solutions.
  • Establish Motion Design Guidelines: Lead the definition and communication of motion design guidelines, best practices, and standards, ensuring consistency and quality across all product experiences.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional counterparts to understand product requirements, define objectives, and translate business goals into innovative design opportunities.
  • Align with Brand and Design Systems: Collaborate with our Design System and Brand leads to ensure that all design elements adhere to Rakuten Rewards' design guidelines, contributing to a cohesive and recognizable brand experience.
  • Bridge Design and Development: Partner seamlessly with developers to bridge the gap from design to production, ensuring that motion design is effectively integrated into product builds and enhances the overall user experience.
  • Be a Team Player: Contribute to a collaborative environment where designers, developers, and other stakeholders work together to create the best possible outcomes for our members. Communicate design decisions clearly and effectively, and be open to feedback and new ideas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or (equivalent work experience) in a design discipline including but not limited to: Human-Computer Interaction, UI / UX, Graphic Design or Digital Media Arts
  • 5+ years of experience designing digital products (web and iOS/Android) in close partnership with Product and Engineering.
  • Proficiency with design, prototyping and motion software, e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Figma, Principle, Framer X, Lottie

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong Illustration skills
  • Understanding of basic front-end languages. You know the constraints of developing for multiple devices and how to create a unified experience across them.
  • Design experience within an e-commerce or marketplace with a mobile-first mentality
  • Excellent communication skills, an engaging presentation style, and strong visual storytelling.
  • Experience designing for iterative and experimental features to drive growth metrics.

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the base compensation for this role to be within the range shown below. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.

USD $115,005.00 - $196,020.00 annually
