We are seeking a talented Software Engineer with a minimum of 2 years of hands- on experience in developing and maintaining web services, RESTful APIs, and working with AWS and Kafka. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross- functional teams to design, implement, and maintain our technology stack, ensuring it's robust, scalable, and reliable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with other engineers and cross-functional leaders to support core system services that powers the rewards platform
  • Involve in end-to-end application lifecycle, from architecture design, middleware selection, development, configuration setting, to application release and production system operation
  • Design and build testable, scalable software solutions with the ability to balance business needs, existing system dependencies, and industry best practices
  • Break work down into concise deliverables with a focus on iterative product delivery
  • Conduct independent analyses to design and build automated solutions to address business needs
  • Respond to production issues and apply solutions in a timely manner to mitigate both customer-facing and internal impacts

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in Backend API design and development
  • Experience in application development using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate
  • Working knowledge of OLTP databases like Postgres/MySQL and/or OLAP databases like Snowflake
  • Experience with Java build automation tools, such as Maven or Gradle
  • Experience of Batch Application development
  • Working knowledge of version control system like Git

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. or M.S in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 4 to 7 years of application development experience
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban)
  • Experience with AWS Technologies - Kubernetes S3, SQS, Lambda, DynamoDB, IAM etc. - is a plus
  • Working knowledge of distributed system building blocks (e.g. Kafka, Redis, Elastic Search, or other similar NoSQL product) is a plus
  • Prior experience in refactoring legacy systems is a plus
  • Strong knowledge/experience on Linux operating system is a plus
  • Prior experience in Affiliate or Loyalty Reward platform is a plus

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the base compensation for this role to be within the range shown below. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.
