Summary:
Rakuten International is seeking an Enterprise Discovery and Risk Manager to develop and lead a corporate electronic discovery program and support development and maintenance of an enterprise risk management framework. This unique hands-on role combines expertise in litigation discovery, project management, and enterprise risk management. The role serves as the primary point of contact throughout the discovery lifecycle, applying in-depth knowledge and experience to provide expert consultation and advice on technology and best practices. The successful candidate will consult with in-house litigation counsel and external counsel to effectively develop and apply technical strategies, requirements and goals in order to develop and implement project plans, including data collection, processing, document production, document review and trial.

The ideal candidate will have a background in litigation discovery processes, proven project management skills, and experience with risk management and compliance programs.

Key Responsibilities:
- Establish litigation hold policy and discovery program and processes, ensuring standard procedures for electronic discovery and litigation support projects are consistently applied throughout a case.
- Advise legal team on technology options to respond to specific discovery and internal investigation needs.
- Develop cost estimate and advise on maximizing efficiencies and cost reductions.
- Oversee the creation of statistical reports providing information on collection, filtering, processing review and productions.
- Review documents responsive to discovery requests, internal investigation, DSAR requests, or for factual development in case assessment.
- Develop and implement strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with litigation and discovery processes, as well as broader enterprise risks.
- Lead small- and large-scale document reviews and discovery efforts in litigation matters, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage and optimize the company's enterprise risk management program, ensuring alignment with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices in risk management.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including Legal, IT, Compliance and Operations, to ensure comprehensive risk coverage and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Coordinate with our internal audit team to review and evaluate the effectiveness of risk management practices and compliance procedures.
- Facilitate risk assessment workshops and training sessions to promote risk awareness and a risk-informed decision-making culture throughout the organization.
- Prepare and present risk reports and dashboards to senior management, highlighting key risk exposures, trends, and mitigation efforts.
Qualifications:
- Required: Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in litigation discovery, risk management, internal audit, or a related field, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in litigation discovery and document review processes.
- Demonstrated understanding of enterprise risk management principles and practices, and proficient in using technology and software tools related to document management, discovery, and risk assessment. Experience with Office 365, Slack, MS Teams, and Box as data repositories is preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to work effectively across different levels of the organization.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest degree of professionalism.
