Rakuten Rewards is seeking a talented associate corporate counsel to join our legal team in our San Mateo office. The associate corporate counsel will play a critical role in supporting the transactional function, reviewing and negotiating legal agreements and administering and improving processes and solutions for the legal department and its clients. In this role, you will provide legal support for various aspects of the Rakuten Rewards business, including marketing, procurement, and sales. We are looking for someone who is passionate about working within a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and ready to pitch in and help take our business to new heights.
What you'll do:
- Review and negotiate a variety of legal agreements, including service agreements, insertion orders, non-disclosure agreements, data processing agreements, and technology licensing agreements.
- Provide advice and support on a variety of legal subject areas, including contract interpretation, data privacy, and intellectual property.
- Distill legal principles and compliance requirements into practical business advice and solutions.
- Support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements, legal processes, and documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support risk mitigation procedures inresponse to pre-litigation disputes, incidents, audits, and other inquiries.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate General Counsel.
What you'll bring to the table:
- J.D. and admitted to the bar and in good standing to practice law in California
- 1-3 years of relevant legal experience (may be combined in-house/law firm experience)
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent business and legal judgement
- Ability to work independently and demonstrated ability to collaborate and work with legal professionals as well as business clients
- Highly organized and process oriented
- Experience in tech, marketing, or ecommerce, a plus

Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. USD $99,306.00 - $171,612.00 annually
