About the Team:
Quizlet’s User Research team is responsible for finding both qualitative and quantitative insights about learners and educators of all kinds, all over the world, to inform both the products and marketing of Quizlet. Since its founding in 2019, the team has played a pivotal role in the company’s product and marketing strategies.
About the Role:
As a research manager focused on international markets, you’ll be responsible for: identifying, vetting, and project managing international agencies and moderators. You'll uncover user insights through both qualitative and quantitative methods, framing new product opportunities that span markets and informing per-market value propositions and growth tactics. In total, this role will be a key input for setting international strategy at Quizlet, including which markets and segments to pursue, as well as how to win against competition and bring more learners to our platforms.
This role will report to the Director of User Research and Content Design.
On a daily basis, you’ll partner with the international expansion team, product management, product analytics, other researchers, and user research to develop strategies to ensure Quizlet becomes a go-to study app for students in new markets while strengthening our positions in existing ones.
As a strong researcher, you’ll lead research efforts for English and non-English speaking countries, developing systems to increase our learner understanding. As an experienced vendor manager, you’ll know how to identify first-rate partners, steer clear of charlatans, and efficiently and effectively direct them to deliver against our research goals. More than that, you’ll be able to apply an expert researcher’s hand to transforming those initial deliverables into rich, resonant stories that become deeply embedded into the minds of leaders and teams at Quizlet as they seek to act on insights.
Insights don’t travel without being woven into a good story. You will thrive in this role if you are excellent at making your audiences care about the people our team speaks with, pulls out the nuggets and insights that incite change, and can make use of multiple media in order to make a story thought-provoking, richly detailed, emotional, but also concise and actionable.
This is a hybrid role based out of our San Francisco office hub.

- Partner with our international organization to uncover critical insights as we expand to and focus on new markets
- Travel to a few key markets (maximum 4x per year) to conduct research in person
- Work flexible hours in order to oversee projects being conducted in time zones far from home; it won’t be all the time, but some early mornings and late nights are a given for this role some of the time
- Lead relationships with our portfolio of international research partners, especially cultivating and vetting new ones, and writing requests for proposal and helping to shepherd agreements through procurement
- Collaborate with design, marketing, product and engineering teams to scope studies, build team empathy, and implement findings
- Coach and advise designers, marketing managers, and product managers conducting their own research projects
- Work with data analysts and scientists to discover insights in data to expand upon and further your own research
What you bring to the table:
- 6-10 years experience in a market or user research role at a consumer-facing company
- 2+ years of experience directly managing research vendors in non-anglophone markets
- Strong leadership qualities with a proven ability to influence cross-functional teams. You’ll be confident in creative problem solving and have strong interpersonal skills
- Strong research skills, including surveys, interviews, and competitive intelligence; data analysis skills a plus
- Excellent skills in identifying insights that are non-obvious, building evidence for them, and convincing skeptics of their value and impact
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills with a high attention to detail
- Comfort with ambiguity, uncertainty, and a rapidly evolving business landscape
- Scaling-mindset with a good understanding of how product and marketing teams tend to evaluate investment opportunities
Bonus points if you have:
- Familiarity with the ed tech landscape and/or Gen Z consumers
- Experience working within a freemium consumer subscriptions business
