Job Summary:
The Security Officer is an integral part of the student support system at Propel Schools. Working with the Leadership Team, the Security Officer will ensure scholar and staff safety within our buildings. This position assists the administrative staff with enforcing policies and procedures for safe and orderly schools at the building level.
Key Job Elements:
- Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or school board policies.
- Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
- Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
- Supervises and directs pupil movement.
- Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.
- Operates metal detectors and conducts searches when directed to do so.
- Investigates scholar violations of school board policies and prepares reports of the results.
- Works with school administrators and law enforcement officials in handling serious scholar offenses and law violations.
- Testifies in court and at School Board Disciplinary Review Committee hearings as required.
- Assists with fire drills and other emergency building evacuations.
- Attends and successfully completes all staff development training as required by state law or directed by the Administration.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Supports additional events and/or Afterschool activities when assigned.
- Complies with all other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Operations.

Qualifications & Skills:

- Act 235 or Act 120
- High School diploma or GED.
- Verifiable work history.
- Ability to work with youth and adults in the school setting.

Salary and Benefits
- Compensation: Propel provides a competitive salary for teachers. Based on relevant certification, our salary range for this role is $22.00/hr - $25.00/hr.
- Relocation Allowance: A relocation allowance for new hires moving to the area from 60 miles away or further.
- Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plan options at a low cost for individual employees and families.
- Retirement: New hires participate in a 403(b); Propel contributes 5% automatically and matches up to 4%. This increases after 5 years.
- Paid Leave: In addition to 2 paid Wellness Days annually, all teachers receive 5 sick days and 10 Personal Days
- Tuition Assistance: Reimbursement of up to $3,000 annually upon completion of course and receipt of grades for coursework that meets our eligibility requirements.
- Wellness Benefit: Reimbursement of $20 per month for wellness activities including Gym Memberships, health programs, etc. Additionally, staff have the ability to earn up to $300 for participation in a Wellness Program each year.
- Professional Development: At Propel, we believe in supporting teacher growth and provide substantial school-based and network-wide professional development support for teachers, including an extensive onboarding process called Induction for new teachers with on-going annual support during the school year called Immersion. All teachers receive 11.5 network-wide Professional Development days annually in addition to school-specific Professional Development.
