Job Summary

The Director of Afterschool Programs will successfully administer all elements of the Afterschool Program. These include (but are not limited to): site operations, academic and extracurricular programming, staffing, budget process and training for all Propel Afterschool sites.

Key Job Elements

  1. Developing and monitoring a budget that reflects the goals of Afterschool, This includes a Propel budget, a 21st CCLC budget and supporting grants.
  2. Administering and supervising current Afterschool programs and summer programs/MAGIC Camps.
  3. Oversight of 21st CCLC sites including hiring, programming, quarterly reports, monitoring the collection of federal and state data, developing and monitoring the federal budget, attending trainings, scheduling four quarterly advisory board meetings, providing parent and staff trainings, and performing other responsibilities as requested from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
  4. Managing part-time staff which includes working collaboratively with the HR and Talent Teams for applications, resumes and time verification.
  5. Collaboration with the Propel Schools Foundation for grant processes such as the writing and evaluation of grant monies.
  6. Creating and maintaining relationships with local/area providers who provide quality programming.
  7. Managing Adult Care Food Programs for all sites. This includes Director training and then training of all site staffs, monitoring the sites, writing applications, and leading team response's at annual monitorings from the PDE.
  8. Collaborating with Data Team regarding Skyward processes, attendance entries, other relevant data collection and reporting.
  9. Coordinating and facilitating communication between Afterschool and regular school-day programs.
  10. Engaging with external providers and developing contracts and MOUs.
  11. Planning special events and creating opportunities that will positively impact Afterschool programming i.e. Annual Afterschool Arts Celebration

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

Minimum education required: Master's degree in education or related field or combination of education and experience

Minimum years of experience with ‘out-of-school' time programming: 5 years and 5 year tenure with managerial responsibilities

The qualifications/skills necessary to ensure high-levels of program success and effectiveness include excellence in:

  • Internal/external communication, oral and written
  • Computational/analytic skills
  • Interpersonal approaches
  • Balancing multiple priorities
  • Utilizing multiple digital platforms, including Google suite
  • People management
  • Engaging with underserved, diverse communities

Preferred:

  • Background managing after school program sites in urban areas
  • Experience working with budgets

Benefit Information:

  • Relocation Allowance: A relocation allowance for new hires moving to the area from 90 miles away or further.
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plan options at a low cost for individual employees and families (Choice between Highmark or UPMC)
  • Retirement: New hires participate in a 403(b); Propel contributes 5% automatically and matches up to 4%. This increases after 5 years.
  • Paid Leave: In addition to 16-19 paid holidays annually and 2 paid Wellness Days per year, you'll receive 5 sick days and 10 Personal Days, along with an accrual of 6 hours of vacation time per pay period.
  • Tuition Assistance: Reimbursement of up to $3,000 annually upon completion of course and receipt of grades for coursework that meets our eligibility requirements.
  • Wellness Benefit: Reimbursement of $20 per month for wellness activities including Gym Memberships, health programs, etc. Additionally, staff have the ability to earn up to $300 for participation in a Wellness Program each year.
