Flexible Work Arrangement: Hybrid
The Power Systems Engineer position provides support for the PJM Model Management system used to update the PJM Bulk Transmission Model for implementation in the PJM Energy Management System (EMS), Market System and other downstream applications used in PJM. This includes participation in the design, testing, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the PJM EMS Model Management, State Estimation (SE) and Contingency Analysis (CA) systems. The engineer will also participate in the bulk transmission model quarterly updates and provide support to PJM staff using the Model Management tool to update the PJM model both for real-time and quarterly model update purposes. Additionally the engineer will coordinate creation of the latest model build file in the Common Information Model (CIM) format for downstream use.

Essential Functions:
- Participate and provide subject matter expertise in the PJM Quarterly Transmission Model Update process by creating in CIM and other formats the latest nodal and commercial models, ensuring successful transfer of such to downstream systems including PJM EMS SCADA, Advanced Applications (including SE and CA), Automatic Generation Control (AGC), Operator Training Simulator (OTS), Market systems and other PJM downstream tools, supporting translation requirements as appropriate
- Participate and provide subject matter expertise in Real-Time model updates of Transmission Model parameter data updates directly into the Advanced applications tool suite
- Support the specification, design, development, testing and maintenance of the PJM EMS Model Management and Advanced Applications (including SE and CA) systems to ensure they meet PJM's changing functional requirements and ongoing infrastructure maintenance requirements, including interaction with EMS vendors to complete implementation and ensure ongoing maintenance is addressed
- Creation and maintenance of departmental and other user process and procedure documentation for use of PJM EMS Model Management, Advanced Applications (including SE and CA) systems and overall Model Update and Maintenance process
Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience
- At least 5 years of experience real-time Energy Management System databases
- Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory
- Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support
- Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory
Preferred:
- Master's Degree in Engineering
- Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
- Experience using PSS/e (power system analysis program)
