Role Summary: Senior PPM category lead is responsible and accountable for developing and implementing an industryleading project management organization. This effort will entail ensuring the performance of China Asset Project Managers to facilitate development of and delivery of projects within the specified category from buy up through execution of life cycle management plans. In addition, lead and support China BD activities and provide strong alliance management with partners. Scope of Responsibility • The Sr. PPM category lead is responsible for foster leadership, performance management, and skills development for China Asset PMs within Development China. • The Sr. PPM category lead will drive development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of project management methodologies within Development China by leveraging the best practices identified across the organization and beyond. • The Sr. PPM category lead acts as the single point of contact from Development China to manage China business development activities to support the corporate and China strategy. He is the key team members in CSORT for asset evaluation and plays an important role in staged and full due diligence processes as well as integration of an asset, group of assets, or a company, once a deal is signed and closed. • The Sr. PPM category lead is responsible for building and maintaining connection with the global category leadership team members (PRD, POD) to integrate China into the global portfolio context. • The Sr. PPM category lead is responsible for building and developing his group of project managers and planners to ensure the business goals are met as relates to applicable portfolio deliverables. He is also expected to cultivate an environment for his group of talents to grow and develop. Organizational Relationships: Reports to Development China Head of Onc&RD Dev. Key relationships include: • Global PPM and PMT • DC functions (Clinician, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Trial Management, etc.) • China Regulatory, DC Finance • China Commercial Development • WWBD Search and Evaluation Team and PBG Strategy & Business Development Resources Managed (budget and FTEs): This role has direct management responsibility of 6 to 8 individuals typically. Ability to quickly focus a team on the critical elements of the project and motivate team to deliver, in addition, be able to use own initiative to overcome obstacles to execution. • Evidence of driving China team to ensure execution against plan based on time and cost criteria with high quality. • Evidence of consistently and proactively managing operational risk and implementing contingency/mitigationstrategies. • Demonstrated ability to build networks across organizational and functional lines in order to secure commitment. • Demonstrated ability to manage change in an ever-changing environment from culture to process. Business Development and Alliance Management: • Work with BD team to identify and evaluate innovative drug development opportunities from pre-clinical through commercial stage. • Builds a wide network and strong alliances, utilizing the input to develop strategic thinking and find opportunities for collaboration. • Lead China BD technical evaluation team for potential targets assessment, managing the cross functional process. This will include relevant team members in R&D, BD, IP and Legal. • Provide strong support for senior leaders for asset/company integration from R&D perspective. • Provide strong alliance management for China BD projects and demonstrate leadership to ensure partnerships delivers value. Drives Team Effectiveness: • Proven ability to develop asset team or category core team effective management. • Ability to drive team consensus around difficult issues, in addition, demonstrated ability to challenge team members to higher levels of performance. • Ability to provide strategic direction through both leadership and management to ensure colleague development, engagement, and commitment to delivering to key stakeholders. Communication Skills and Influence: • Be able to inspire, gain commitment, and positively affect the behavior of team members through personal credibility and track record of delivery of personal and team goals. • Supports team effectiveness through excellent communications by enabling a creative and inclusive environment • Proven ability to develop a network within the company to facilitate decision making and overcome barriers to delivery. Qualifications (Training, Education & Prior Experience): Education • Master's degree in one of the disciplines related to drug development or business is required. At least 3 years of experience in PPM category lead role in the pharmaceutical industry. • Strong technical experience in a discipline associated with drug development. Deep expertise and broad knowledge of business development and strong track record of project alliance management. • Strong track record of performance on cross-functional teams and results through effective implementation of project management tools and techniques. • Experience managing a portfolio of projects and delivery on multiple simultaneous work streams. • Demonstrated success in negotiating in an environment of highly matrix-based organization. • Ability to synthesize data and information from multiple sources to assess and analyze portfolio progress and performance and recommend process improvements. • Demonstrated capability/experience in people management and talent development.
