Pfizer BioMedicine Design group at San Diego, CA is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist with training in protein purification and characterization to join a dynamic team in antibody discovery, optimization, and production. This role requires good understanding and hands-on skills in protein/antibody production and engineering.

What You Will Achieve

As a Senior Associate Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will play an important role in a high-energy protein purification research laboratory. You will be responsible for processing of mammalian-expressed recombinant protein modalities including, but not limited to, monoclonal antibodies using state-of-the-art technologies and equipment. You will also contribute to the group wide deliverables and be required to work on several projects simultaneously presenting results and updates at group meetings.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Work within a team on various antibody identification, optimization, and/or production projects in parallel.
  • Implement protein purification methods to isolate IgG, fusion proteins and antigens from mammalian cell culture.
  • Analyze proteins using standard protein characterization methods (UV, SDS-PAGE/cGE, analytical SEC, SEC-MALS, endotoxin, etc.).
  • Comfortable working with AKTA
  • Design experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot when issues arise, under supervision.
  • Present experimental design and results at internal meetings.
  • Accomplish goals under project team timelines.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • B.S or M.S in Biological Science (Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology) or a related field (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Biological Engineering) with 3+ years or M.S with 1-2 years of relevant experience in either an academic or industrial setting
  • Understand principles and able to execute modern protein purification techniques (protein A/G affinity, Immobilized Metal Chelate Affinity Chromatography (IMAC), size exclusion, ion exchange chromatography).
  • Previous experience with protein characterization methods, including SDS-PAGE/cGE, aSEC, mass spec, endotoxin measurement.
  • Detail-oriented, document data and experiments properly, good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced interdisciplinary scientific team and the desire to learn new techniques.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multitask.

Nice-to-Have

  • Previous experience with protein and/or antibody engineering
  • Previous experience with molecular cloning techniques and cell culture

  • Lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $64,600.00 to $107,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
