Department Overview

In the Specialty Care Business Unit, we support a broad portfolio and pipeline of medicines, including those for Rare Diseases, Inflammation & Immunology and antibiotics for difficult to treat, resistant infections. Medical Affairs is a function primarily tasked with engaging and collaborating with healthcare professionals and professional bodies to facilitate a medical and scientific bridge between Pfizer and the healthcare community.

Pfizer Anti-Infectives is a dynamic and highly diverse business with unique opportunities for growth. Starting with our pioneering work on penicillin in the 1940s, we have a long and proud heritage of addressing evolving infectious disease challenges. We have a portfolio of life-saving antibiotics and antifungals, including a recently launched antibiotic that addresses a true unmet patient need.

Infections can touch us all, at any age and in any country. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought this to light more than ever. Pfizer offers the industry's largest and most diverse portfolio of anti-infectives and continues to invest in novel treatments for infectious diseases. The aim is to address the greatest patient medical needs and partner with the infectious disease community to provide solutions that go beyond the medicine and offer innovative surveillance tools, shape the policy environment, and support stewardship and education programs that help to preserve the efficacy of the antimicrobials we already have available.

Our strategic intent is to make a meaningful contribution to improving global health through:

  • Bringing critical anti-infective options to patients and physicians
  • Leveraging our expertise and capabilities and working closely with the infectious disease community to address antimicrobial resistance through dynamic stewardship, global policy leadership and innovative surveillance tools
