ROLE SUMMARY

The successful candidate will help derive insights from Pfizer's proprietary data and external data to generate hypothesis focused on drug discovery and clinical development. Individual in this role will partner with clinical statisticians, pharmacologists, medical development leads and evidence teams to successfully incorporate AI/ML techniques to impact Pfizer portfolio under the guidance of the AQDS function head. The candidate will collaborate with Pfizer teams and help machine learning review of projects leveraging contemporary AI/ML methods (e.g. Causal AI, Generative AI, Digital Twins, Knowledge Graphs) across key therapeutic areas.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in building and leading cross-functional teams, project discovery and implementation, stakeholder management at executive levels, and bring a collaborative attitude and approach to problem solving.

The candidate will lead strategic external partnerships in India to advance data science including at commercial partners, academic centers, collaborations with government and non-profit organizations.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the AQDS organization in India, including recruitment, resource management, guidance, and mentoring
  • Collaborate with key therapy areas to identify scientific problems, identify data sources to solve the problem, select and implement AI/ML methods and convey modeling insights to clinical and operational teams to advance the mission of Global Biometrics & Data Management
  • Review and supervise data collection/aggregation through model building and deployment to ensure robust performance for all predictive and classification algorithms through well-developed AI/ML analysis plans
  • Participate as an AI/ML SME during regulatory interactions to clarify methodology, analysis results and interpretation
  • Responsible for delivery of AI/ML models and associated analytics designed to drive the interrogation of datasets for insights in scientific and operational application areas. These solutions include the application of specialized approaches in classification, regression, clustering, NLP, Generative AI, image analysis, knowledge graphs, digital twins, and/or other relevant techniques
  • Ensure Pfizer methodology remains current through knowledge sharing of new tools and/or vendors working in AI/ML.
  • Utilize expertise in Clinical Development, including early through late-stage clinical trials, and knowledge of data, analytics, and AI to design the most valuable solutions, advise team members, stakeholders, and ensure implementation of the most practical approaches that achieve the desired outcomes
  • Work across organizational lines to connect the dots across Clinical needs and help with the development of the cohesive strategy that serves those needs efficiently
  • Translate clinical data and analytics needs and priorities into tactical projects for AQDS to lead and advance
  • Maintain an active external network in the life sciences AI/ML community to understand state-of-the-art capabilities and potential impacts to Pfizer's early to late development teams

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 8 (PhD, 5+) years of experience working in biopharmaceutical or tech companies in data science, with at least 3 years in a leadership role with gradually increasing responsibilities
  • Must have prior people management experience
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, Operations Research or Biomedical Engineering
  • Working knowledge of biomedical informatics, clinical/medical informatics, computational biology, and AI/ML
  • Understanding of biopharmaceutical clinical trial data and molecular biomarkers
  • Insights into the opportunities and challenges presented with applying AI/ML to business problems within the life sciences industry
  • Experience with translating customer needs into AI/ML solutions
  • Strong programming skills (Python, R, Julia)
  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Google, Azure)
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and team-building ability
