As the Director, AIDA R&D AI & Data Solutions Engineering, you will lead and manage our R&D data solutions engineering team, driving the maturity and delivery of data solutions and engineering practices. Your technical expertise will be crucial in designing, developing, analyzing, and implementing innovative R&D data solutions. This may include data modeling and design, data architecture, metadata management, and configuration management. You will utilize your knowledge of data mapping, data mining, and data transformation to optimize data storage and processing requirements. Additionally, you will prepare system requirements, source analysis, process analysis, and design throughout the implementation process.

In this role, you will be a subject matter expert, leveraging your industry knowledge, understanding of customer requirements, and awareness of the general business environment to adapt and implement strategic actions for the division. Your ability to interpret and align with the division's strategy will help establish business priorities and set long-term direction. Your managerial skills will be essential in leading people and managing technological and financial resources within the division.

Your leadership and focus will be instrumental in helping Pfizer achieve new milestones and make a significant impact on patients worldwide.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage cross-functional data solutions engineering teams focused on R&D data. Set team objectives and manage high-complexity projects.
  • Incorporate feedback to improve team practices and resolve bottlenecks in R&D data workflows.
  • Own and mature a data solutions engineering roadmap using cloud-native technologies. Develop, mature and leverage existing foundational patterns for efficient delivery.
  • Collaborate with peers who are developers and engineers to ensure best practices and quick value addition.
  • Promote data security and compliance in line with pharmaceutical industry regulations.
  • Lead R&D Engineering center of excellence activities and oversee automation services delivery.
  • Design scalable solutions for user success in R&D. Review technical designs and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Oversee multiple data delivery projects from initiation to deployment. Develop timelines, evaluate risks, and communicate progress.
  • Define and influence project scope, goals, deliverables, and financial estimates that support business goals in collaboration with leadership, technical delivery team and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, data product managers, architects and development teams to develop the product strategy and roadmap that delivers the quality of data and actionable insights to business.
  • Establish a culture of high performance, transparency, and continuous improvement.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering or data solutions, with a strong background in pharmaceutical enterprise data, particularly in R&D
  • 7+ years of Strong people management experience, including mentoring and coaching engineers
  • Experience in overseeing large-scale and complex technical delivery over $5M+ in budget
  • Demonstrated experience of designing, supporting, and maintaining the data analytic platforms with deep expertise in data modeling, data governance, and data pipeline management principles
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to provide strategic recommendations and communicate progress and risks to senior management
  • Understanding of data security and compliance requirements in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Hands on experience leading and working as part of Agile teams, processes, practices, and DevOps
  • Proficiency in cloud-native technologies, data architecture, and engineering best practices
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as AWS CertifiedSolutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, or similar
  • Experience with cloud native data technologies: examples: Databricks and Snowflake
  • Knowledge of advanced analytics tools: Tableau, Power BI, or Spotfire.
  • Experience in a regulated industry: Beyond pharmaceuticals, such as finance or healthcare
  • Strong multi-discipline experience, with a preference for experience in technology strategy and management, management consulting and engineering
  • Experience working effectively in a distributed remote team environment.

Work Location Assignment: Hybrid

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $161,600.00 to $269,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
