As the Bothell Campus Environmental Lead, you will contribute to Pfizer's Purpose by driving environmental compliance, resource conservation and impact reduction programs. Through your technical and leadership acumen, you will enable timely and effective environmental assessment ensuring the impact of change is evaluated and emission control strategies remain aligned with the campus risk profile. You will be a key member of the campus EHS team collaborating with EHS peers to instill and sustain a culture of EHS excellence.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Participates in the development and maintenance of the site EHS compliance and risk registers; ensuring that all regulatory, jurisdictional and Pfizer environmental policies are identified; and the compliance calendar is proactively managed.
  • Maintains active monitoring processes ensuring new / changes to local, federal, and company environmental requirements are effectively communicated, reviewed with key campus stakeholders and incorporated in applicable compliance programs and tools, including Legal Registers and Compliance Calendars.
  • Leads proactive preparation / renewal of environmental permit applications, inspections and required reporting covering all media, including air, water, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous and medical waste in accordance with local, federal and company requirements. Examples include but are not limited to Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986 (EPCRA) Tier II Reporting; Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC), Hazardous Waste Large Quantity Generator Biennial Hazardous Waste Report and Industrial Stormwater Conditional No Exposure certification.
  • Establishes mechanisms to ensure completeness and accuracy of environmental reporting; undertaking follow up where required and actively participates in governance review processes associated with submittal approval.
  • Leads environmental risk assessments ensuring the impact of change is evaluated and effectively managed to ensure emissions controls remain aligned with the campus environmental risk profile.
  • Leads the environmental technical program development, including program performance monitoring and signal detection to ensure continuous improvement
  • Ensures timely notification of environmental events / incidents and drives the environmental incident investigation process ensuring implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • In conjunction with key stakeholders schedules and conducts periodic self-assessments and in field inspections to ensure that jurisdictional and Pfizer Global environmental standards are rigorously applied.
  • Partners with business lines, facilities and engineering teams to drive environmental sustainability action plans aligned with enterprise and campus priorities.
  • Manages and oversees contract services provided by hazardous waste vendors ensuring service level, performance and financial accountability indicators are met.
  • Partners with the campus EHS Systems Manager to integrate environmental content within the site EHS training strategy.
  • Collaborates with environmental peers within the Pfizer network to embrace good practices and drive adoption.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Applicant must have HS Diploma with ten years of relevant experience; OR an Associate's degree with eight years of experience; OR a Bachelor's degree with at least five years of experience; OR a Master's degree with more than three years of experience; OR a Ph.D. with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Relevant industry experience gained within a large academic institution, pharmaceutical R&D, or biotechnology setting,
  • Active membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., Institute of Hazardous Materials Management), ideally with a formal continuous professional development requirement.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and jurisdictional environmental regulations, and their applicability to campus environmental program management
  • Environmental technical and leadership experiences and capabilities, aligned with campus environmental profile
  • Organized and detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to handle competing priorities and perform under pressure, bias for action
  • Possesses a collaborative spirit, effective influencing skills, strong project management skills

Nice-to-Have

  • Education in Environmental Mgt, or Environmental Engineering field preferred.
  • Certified Environmental Professional; with continuous professional development

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Due to the nature of work assignments, the role holder must be able to perform detailed work with limited oversight on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraints; while advancing long term priorities.
  • Overall physical fitness to conduct a range of functions including training, on location risk assessment, inspections and audits. This will require the ability to carry necessary work materials e.g. laptop etc, to stoop; to reach; to sit / stand / walk for extended periods of time; ability to climb stairs
  • Daily interactions with colleagues through face to face or virtual meetings enabled using technology such as TEAMs requiring ability to effectively exchange ideas and information with colleagues using these systems.
  • Ability to understand, evaluate, interpret and explain multiple complex inputs and provide clear direction.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outside standard working hours (early mornings / evenings) to engage and interact with peer EHS leaders across a geographically diverse network

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $93,500.00 to $155,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
