Overview
The Measurement Sciences (MS) Senior Scientist is part of Measurement Sciences and reports into our Measurement Sciences Senior Manager based in Plano. The job is integral to the daily analytical testing of innovation, research, and quality monitoring for the successful development/commercialization of new products and maintaining existing products. The role is based out of Plano, TX.
Measurement Science Senior Scientist is a critical part of the Global Measurement Sciences foods and oil chemistry team. The main objective of the role is to apply analytical chemistry fundamentals to food materials, focusing on vegetable oil quality and other key business projects relating to natural colors and diverse ingredients. In addition, this role requires optimizing processes and delivering appropriate data management for tracking and reporting. A secondary objective is to develop the next generation of analytical instruments and test methods to meet the requirements of the ever-changing field operational analytical needs and landscape.

Responsibilities
- Develop analytical methods, procedures and capture documentation into laboratory information system.
- Collaborate with legal, regulatory affairs, product development, operations, consumer relations and analytical partners on forensics issues as they arise.
- Coordinate the testing of samples leveraging internal and external capabilities.
- Partner with product development to recommend ways of analyzing PepsiCo food product and oils to identify pathways of Maillard browning, protein degradation, and lipid oxidation.
- Partner with product development to drive key business objectives in conformance with FDA approved methodology for projects such as natural colors and diverse ingredients.
- Perform lab tests and conduct analysis in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner with minimal supervision.
- Participate in the review and development of oil quality methods for new products.
- Stay current in area of expertise and area of project related research by reading and interpreting scientific literature and IP, and actively engage in relevant external scientific organizations and internal scientific forums.
- Collaborate across the Measurement Sciences global laboratory team to ensure alignment and consistency across processes and practices.
- Demonstrate adherence to site Health & Safety and Good Laboratory Practice policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation and assure the reliability of measurement systems by using appropriate GLP.
Compensation and Benefits:
- The expected compensation range for this position is between $72,500 - $121,300.

- Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 8% of annual salary paid out annually.

Qualifications
- PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or related discipline with 1+ years' experience in a laboratory environment.
- Analytical food chemistry experience required.
- Experience with gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, and mass spec analysis.
- Understanding of the chemistry of food relevant to lipids with experience with various lipid and fat analysis.
- Familiar with Laboratory Information Management Systems and documentation tools.
- Knowledge and experience of analytical chemistry techniques, instrumentation, and statistics.
- Highly developed critical thinking skills required to determine various potential technical solutions and solve technical problems utilizing standard research methodology.
- Ability to communicate confidently and effectively in a timely manner in presentations and emails.
- Must understand and follow safe handling of hazardous chemicals and have an appreciation of the normal hazards associated with laboratory work.
- Oil chemistry knowledge preferred (compositional analysis & testing methodology)
- Oil processing knowledge experience preferred.
- CPG process/product development experience recommended.
- LC-MS experience recommended.
- NIR/FTIR chemometrics experience recommended.
