The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010. Its mission is to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed healthcare decisions. Position Summary
Under the direction of the Associate Director, Public Engagement, the Program Officer is responsible for strategic decision-making and high-level management of stakeholder engagement program activities that advance PCORI's Engagement mission. The primary responsibilities include providing intellectual and organizational leadership in designing and facilitating stakeholder community convenings and presentations for various stakeholder groups; strategic engagement of PCORI stakeholder communities including clinicians, payers, patients/patient advocates, and others; and. translating data into meaningful information for stakeholder communities. The Program Officer will lead stakeholder engagement efforts on key priority areas, working across business units at PCORI to ensure that stakeholder views are understood and inform PCORI directions. The Program Officer helps to match stakeholder priorities to PCORI funding opportunities, along with the development of Research Synthesis evidence products.

Duties and Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement Responsibilities:
- Work with the Associate Director of Public Engagement as a PCORI liaison to stakeholder communities, responsible for regular communication with, and collecting input from, stakeholders and stakeholder organizations.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Public Engagement on establishing explicit, transparent processes to solicit and obtain stakeholder feedback on PCORI priorities, research, results and dissemination plans.
- Work with the Associate Director of Public Engagement to obtain, synthesize, and facilitate representation of the views of stakeholder communities to PCORI boards and staff.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Public Engagement, across PCORI business units, and with contracted vendors, as necessary, to design, coordinate, and facilitate stakeholder engagement through community-specific or topic-focused meetings, roundtables, convenings and other similar methods of engagement.
Research Project Agenda Topic Theme Advancement
- Collaborate with Comparative Effectiveness Research teams to lead Research Project Agenda topic theme development, refinement, and advancement
- Lead stakeholder community engagement efforts to explore and refine topic theme development
- Synthesize and present stakeholder community perspectives and priorities to PCORI Board and staff
Resource Development
- Collaborate with Strategy, Engagement Officers, Comparative Clinical Effectiveness, Research Synthesis, Engagement Awards and Evaluation & Analysis staff to determine which data and learnings from PCORI's funded work should be prioritized as meaningful information for stakeholder communities.
- Determine which information is most appropriate to share with which stakeholder groups, and how.
- Develop guidance documents, tools, and presentation materials in conjunction with contractor(s) to be utilized by PCORI staff in award management, internal and external presentations, and publications
Organizational Responsibilities and Contributions:
- Represent PCORI publicly regarding Public and Patient Engagement program direction and PCORI's programmatic funding opportunities.
- Participate in conferences, seminars, and other professional development activities to maintain and enhance patient-centered outcomes research and stakeholder engagement expertise.
- Lead, contribute to, and participate in internal groups and teams and cross-cutting initiatives on various initiatives, including topic development for future funding announcements and priority research areas.
- Keep Program Director and Engagement team appraised of developments and occurrences in the field that will likely affect Engagement program decision-making and/or strategies.
- Actively engage in PCORI's processes for reviewing and awarding Engagement Award applications received through the PCORI funding announcement process and collaborate on special projects as needed.
- Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by PCORI management and ad hoc requests.

Required Skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial, energetic, able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, awardees, consultants, external funders, and others who contribute to program development and management
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public presentations. Experience in the development of tools and guidance to support engagement desired.
- Close knowledge of one or more key PCORI stakeholder groups, e.g. purchaser/employer groups, payers, clinician groups, etc.
- Experience in leading and managing meetings, roundtables, convenings and other similar methods of engagement.
- Strong program and project management skills
- Ability to work independently and to manage projects and teams
Required Experience
- Master's degree in a health related or clinical area (e.g., MPH, MD, RN, MPA, MPP, MSN; or MBA) preferred
- Familiarity with Comparative Effectiveness Research
- Experience with management of grant or contract awards that include community or patient engagement is highly desirable
- 7+ years' progressive experience and demonstrated success in stakeholder representation, coalition-building, convening stakeholders, grassroots organizing or policy in health-related sectors
- Training or extensive experience in communication with multiple and diverse communities
- Experience and interest in use of electronic methods to compile and synthesize stakeholder data

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000
The above range represents the salary range expected for the position; however, final offers are based on several factors such as the position's responsibilities; the candidate's experience, education, and skills; location; travel required; and current market conditions.
Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may participate in PCORI-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee's eligible dependents.
