Position Summary

Under the direction of the Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Awards Program Director, the Program Officer is responsible for strategic decision-making and high-level management and monitoring of the Engagement Award program, funded projects, and program activities that advance PCORI's Engagement mission. The primary responsibilities include providing intellectual and organizational leadership in designing and implementing new processes and initiatives; reviewing, awarding and managing a portfolio of contracts; and evaluating program activities and award portfolio based on strategic direction of program.

General Program Responsibilities
  • Assists Program Director in identifying and implementing strategic objectives and directions for program.
  • Identifies and manages the development and implementation of program activities (e.g., proposal review, award monitoring and oversight, program metrics and tracking).
  • Collaborates with PCORI Science programs, Engagement, Communications, and Contracts Management staff in implementing program activities.
  • May manage the work of and provide training for program associates, coordinators, interns, administrative assistants, and consultants, as assigned by the Program Director and/or Managing Director.

Program Management:
  • Identifies and manages the design and implementation of activities related to the development of Engagement Award funding announcements.
  • Manages accurate recording of information in databases. Crate, updates, and revises as needed.
  • Addresses Engagement inquiries from helpdesk related to the Engagement Awards
  • Leads PCORI's processes for reviewing and awarding applications received through the Engagement Award process.

  • Monitors awardees' attainment of Engagement Award contract milestones and advises awardees on the execution of their contracts.
  • Participates in meetings, conducts site visits, reviews awardee progress reports, and implements learning networks or conferences as part of overall responsibility for managing Engagement Award contracts.
  • Evaluates the Engagement Award portfolio to ensure balance and to identify need for modification of strategic funding directions and opportunities.
  • Advises potential applicants regarding the Engagement Award program's goals, their applications and the application process.
  • Creates, updates or revises Engagement Award program policies and procedures as needed.

Organizational Responsibilities and Contributions:
  • Plans and delivers information presentations regarding Engagement Award direction, funding, and the application process and award results.
  • Participates in conferences, seminars, and other professional development activities to maintain and enhance patient-centered outcomes research expertise.
  • Leads, contributes to, and participates in internal groups and teams and cross-cutting initiatives. Carries out other responsibilities as assigned by PCORI management.
  • Keeps Program Director and team appraised of developments and occurrences in the field that are likely to affect Engagement Award program decision-making and/or strategies.

Required Experience

  • Master's degree required (e.g., MPH, MPA, MPP, MBA) plus minimum of five (5) years of experience relevant to patient-centered outcomes research.
  • Experience in the scientific or healthcare research environment.
  • Experience with management of grant or contract awards that include community or patient engagement highly desirable.
  • Experience handling and managing multiple priorities effectively; must be adept at organizing time efficiently; high tolerance for ambiguity; ability to understand and work effectively with PCORI staff members.

Compensation and Benefits

The above range represents the salary range expected for the position; however, final offers are based on several factors such as the position's responsibilities; the candidate's experience, education, and skills; location; travel required; and current market conditions.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may participate in PCORI-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee's eligible dependents.
