The Clinical Services Manager provides leadership and is accountable for the performance of a team of Advanced Practice Clinicians (APC’s) and RN’s. In collaboration with the Care delivery organization, the CSM will be responsible for clinical outcomes and business operation targets of market.

  • Assist in the development of functional market level strategies, plans, and organizational priorities
  • Identify and resolve technical, operational and organizational challenges outside and within clinical team
  • Develop internal and external strategic relationships, which support program expansion and continuing success
  • Directly manage clinical staff to ensure business goals/metrics are achieved


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Set team direction, resolve problems, and provide guidance to members of own team
  • Oversee work activities of other supervisors and staff
  • Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
  • Influence and/or provide input to forecasting and planning activities
  • Staff Performance and Internal/External Relationship (Clinical & Leadership Proficiency)
  • Manage salary, bonus incentives and policies in a manner which reward performance excellence
  • Ensure effective orientation and development for clinical staff
  • Utilize Complex Population Management performance tools that hold the clinical team accountable for market metrics and performance standards
  • Promote individual development by providing learning and growth opportunities to clinical staff
  • Actively participate in local/regional NP, PA, physician and geriatric associations with goal of developing clinical and leadership skills
  • Communicate needs and issues addressed by clinical staff to local market and corporate leadership as appropriate
  • Participate in site specific strategic planning activities
  • Develop solutions to problems or barriers by partnering with key stakeholders
  • Provide clinical and clinical operations expertise on business development efforts
  • Serve as a role model to internal and external partners

Program Quality and Revenue Accuracy (Business Proficiency):

  • Oversee implementation and adoption of clinical and quality initiative
  • Accountable for specific financial targets related to clinical programs
  • Use knowledge of the business and financial goals to determine and communicate clinical priorities
  • Partner with staff to achieve business goals
  • Monitor and hold clinical team accountable for documentation and coding initiatives to achieve revenue accuracy
  • Actively engage, coach and drive clinical staff in implementing activities to grow same store and new membership (product/payer specific)

Required Qualifications:

  • For NPs: Graduate of an accredited master’s degree in nursing (MSN) program or Doctor of Nursing practice (DNP) program and board certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (AG AC NP), Adult/Family or Gerontology Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), with preferred certification as ANP, FNP, or GNP
  • Active and unrestricted license in the state which you reside
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner through a national board
  • Current active DEA licensure/prescriptive authority or ability to obtain post-hire, per state regulations (unless prohibited in state of practice)
  • Access to reliable transportation that will enable you to travel to client and / or patient sites within a designated area
  • Proven ability to lift a 30-pound bag in and out of car and to navigate stairs and a variety of dwelling conditions and configurations
  • Proven ability to gain a collaborative practice agreement, if applicable in your state


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as an APC, demonstrating progressive responsibility
  • 2+ years of leadership and management experience in an organization that serves the chronically ill
  • 2+ years of Medicare experience
  • 1+ years of experience as an APC at Optum
  • Leadership and management experience or in a lead role in a CCM market with success in effective team building and quality improvement
  • Experience in adult teaching environment
  • Proficient computer skills including the ability to document medical information with written and electronic medical records
  • Proficient in excel
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain positive customer relationships
  • Proven ability to possess knowledge and understanding of geriatrics clinical management
  • Proven ability to possess a high level of organizational skills, self- motivation, and ability to manage time independently
  • Proven ability to work across functions and businesses to achieve business goals
  • Proven ability to quickly adapt to change and drive change management within team and market
  • Proven effective in motivating and mentoring colleagues and peers


The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
