The Senior Scientist, Immunogenicity and Mechanistic Immunology group in the Biologics Research Center (BRC) in Cambridge focuses on understanding and exploiting the molecular and immunological mechanisms for the discovery, characterization and immunogenicity profile of biotherapeutics and cell and gene therapies in cancer and autoimmune diseases.

We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Senior Scientist to join our immunology team to profile our therapeutics modalities such as CAR-T cells and Immune Cell Engagers and their interactions with target cells and the innate or adaptive immune system.

  • Design, run and independently execute immunological, cellular and biochemical assays with target cells and immune cells to assess biotherapeutics functionality and immunogenicity
  • Competent and independent in executing and analyzing complex assays involving primary cells (including but not limited to T or B cells, myeloid cells), multicolor FACS analysis and functional immunological assays
  • Generates hypotheses, designs, prioritizes and executes experiments, critically analyzes and interprets data, including in silico and omics data
  • Work collaboratively with team members of the Immunogenicity and Mechanistic Immunology groups and with other collaborators at BRC, Oncology, Immunology or Discovery Science departments
  • Regularly communicate and present results to lab head and project teams, prepare protocols and reports
  • Open mindset, organization skills and ability and eagerness to develop novel assays or analysis tools based on project needs in different disease areas
  • Maintain familiarity with scientific and technical literature pertinent to the projects

What you'll bring to the role:

This is a dual posting. The final level & title of the offer role would be determined by the hiring team based on the skills; experience & capabilities required to perform the role at the level the role has been offered (Senior Scientist I /Senior Scientist II)

Essential Requirements:

  • MSc in Life Science disciplines, preferably immunology or cell biology/biochemistry with at least 2 years of experience in human immunology in academia or industry settings. A recent Ph.D. graduate with 0-1 years of experience.
  • Solid knowledge and interest in human immunology, biotherapeutics or cell biology/biochemistry.
  • Experience with primary human cells, phenotyping, functional immunology assays, and protein biochemistry
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new assays, critically analyze data, learn and combine new techniques and concepts quickly, design and prioritize experiments
  • Scientific curiosity, initiative, commitment, flexibility and good organization and presentation skills
  • Work independently and as a team member with open communication with the groups and collaborators

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in cell and gene therapy or omics data analysis is a plus but not mandatory.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $92,800-$139,200/year for a Senior Scientist I and $102,400-$153,600/year for a Senior Scientist II; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
