At the Biologics Research Center (BRC) at Biomedical Research (BR) in Basel, we are developing innovative therapies for our Biologics and Cell & Gene Therapies portfolio.
To help us to achieve our goals we are looking for a highly motivated and curious scientist to join our Cell Line Screening & Development unit at the exciting interface between research and technical development. You will work on the optimization of manufacturing cell lines to produce viral vectors and/or therapeutic proteins by applying state-of-the-art cell line engineering methods. You will improve and test novel vector designs and genetic components. Your will contribute to the design and data analysis and will be responsible for the execution and documentation of the experiments.

About the Role
You will work on projects across the core therapeutic areas in Novartis
and you will be directly contributing to drug development that will impact patient lives.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Research on manufacturing cell line development and engineering as well as lentiviral and adeno-associated viral vector manufacturing
- Perform hands-on execution of mammalian cell culture experiments in BSL1 and BSL2 environments including DNA plasmid transfection, stable cell line generation, virus/protein production in (fed) batch processes and transduction of various cell lines
- Execute molecular biology methods for the analysis of viral and cell line genomes including ddPCR methods
- Perform cell line engineering using CRISPR- and RNAi-based technologies and develop superior manufacturing cell lines using regulatable genetic switches
- Execution of laboratory protocols under development quality practices (DQP)
- Contribution to the design of experiments and analysis and presentation of experimental data
- Detailed documentation of experimental procedures and processes
- Presentation of scientific data and open-minded contribution to cultural and/or scientific discussions
- Independent and collaborative working style to contribute to the successful achievement of the team, colleagues, project and company objectives
Minimum requirements :
What you'll bring to the role:
- University degree (BS or MS) in bioengineering, synthetic biology, virology or a related field or completed apprenticeship as laboratory technician with relevant laboratory experience in industrial or academic setting
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular & cell biology techniques (transfection, FACS, qPCR, ddPCR, Western Blot, NGS & others)
- Experience working in a BSL2 environment and lentiviral vectors is a plus
- Knowledge of flow cytometry analysis and sorting is a plus
- Data driven, with proficiency in programming and data management is a plus
- Experience working with automation instruments is a plus
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills as well as commitment to developing the careers of others and yourself.
- You are driven by self-motivation, enthusiasm, and scientific curiosity and have the ability to adapt in a dynamic and collaborative environment working with team members in a matrix setup
- Fluency in English
