About the role:
We are seeking a BS/MS Research Scientist who is highly motivated, innovative, collaborative and results-driven for the Novartis Oncology Biotherapeutics group in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will work on multiple programs at various stages of early drug discovery research, including the ideation, discovery, and optimization of antibody therapeutics for the clinic. The candidate will be a critical contributor in a dynamic and multidisciplinary group, with opportunities to interact with other functional groups, to understand the process of preclinical discovery of oncology drugs, and finally to transform the lives of cancer patients.

About the Role
Key responsibilities:
- Work towards exploring the biology of emerging drug targets, test exciting novel biologics, and study their mechanism of action with the aim of eventually delivering drug candidates for evaluation in clinical trials
- Independently screen and characterize drug candidates with advanced cell-based assays
- Perform cell-based assays to screen potent cell engaging antibodies and other biologics formats
- Carry out cell-based experiments to characterize drug candidates to support regulatory filing for first-in-human clinical trials. Techniques used will include but are not limited to flow cytometry, cell sorting, cell culture, HTRF/ELISA immunoassays, luminescent-based cell assays, Western blotting, and CRISPR technologies.
- Use automation and high-throughput systems to support large scale drug screening
- Explore the biology of emerging drug targets or exciting novel formats of biologics
- Design and execute experiments with input from team members and experts; troubleshoot technical issues; analyze and interpret the data; formulate hypotheses and design follow-up experiments
- Document results in a detailed manner in laboratory journal and internal databases
- Present research updates and participate constructively in project team meetings and at laboratory group meetings
Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $84,000 - $126,000 / year. While salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Essential Requirements:
- This position will be located at the Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will not require travel.
- MS or BS with at least 2 years of prior experience in industry in cell biology, cancer biology, oncology drug discovery, antibody therapeutics, or related area.
- Hands-on expertise in cell culture, in vitro cell assays and transient/stable cell line generation
- Capable of documenting experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting results within a team environment.
- Excellent technical skills, time management, and lab citizenship.
- A collaborative team player mind-set is essential.
Desirable qualifications:
- Flow cytometry
- Experience with or enthusiasm to learn high-throughput instruments
- Prior experience with antibodies or biologics
- Experience with luminescent-based cell assays, including but not limited to bioluminescence resonance energy transfer-based assays and bioluminescent protein quantification assays
