This key role will be part of Novartis' innovative Biomedical Research Neuroscience department. We are seeking a highly motivated experienced scientific associate to join our multidisciplinary team committed to finding medicines to improve the lives of patients with neurodegenerative diseases. The successful candidate will be responsible for advancing cutting-edge drug discovery projects and enhancing our portfolio.

Please note that this is an in vivo, bench-intensive role, thus passion and dedication to this type of position is vital.

About the Role

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on role with commitment to design, conduct and analyze in vivo studies to characterize disease models and evaluate novel therapeutics.
  • Performing ex vivo experiments
  • Analyzing, interpreting and presenting data in a timely manner
  • Documenting data and protocols in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Ex vivo analyses

Minimum Requirements:

  • A BS degree or equivalent in Neuroscience with 5+ years of industry or research experience or MS degree and 3+ years of industry or research experience
  • Passion for, and proven success in, an in vivo bench role
  • Proficiency with in-life procedures in rodents including drug administration, blood collection, tissue dissection is required, including dissection of brain and spinal cord.
  • Hands-on experience with stereotactic surgeries in rodents.
  • Proficiency with histological techniques, embedding and sectioning.
  • Experience with microscopy and imaging with adaptability to different software packages.
  • Ability to perform molecular biology techniques like western blot, ELISAs etc.
  • Excellent lab technique with the ability to analyze, interpret, and present data and work independently
  • Candidate must be highly motivated with a collaborative mindset and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in standard mammalian cell culture, neuron isolation and astrocyte culture
  • Prior experience working with adeno associated viruses (AAVs) is a plus
  • Willingness to develop and learn new technical skills to answer any potential future biological questions

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $92,000 - $139,00/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
