Summary
The Executive Director for AI and Computational Sciences (AICS) will contribute to the development and implementation of overall strategy for Data and Data Sciences to contribute solving unmet medical needs and process needs, and drive innovation initiatives as well as that will be accountable for aligning the Data and Digital strategy and development of Novartis data management and data science capabilities within the organization and enable recognition of Novartis as a leader in the field of Data management, AI /ML and advanced analytics.
The incumbent will bring expertise, innovation and vision to the field of AI within Biomedical Research, attracting, retaining, empowering and developing top talent, building strong working relationships with diverse business stakeholders, and delivering drug discovery outcomes for the organization and is a member of the Research Informatics Leadership team (RXLT) and also of Biomedical Research's Computational Sciences Council (CSC).

About the Role
Major accountabilities:
- Implement and support in the creation of an industry leading centralized data management, data science framework, develops overall strategy and roadmap to create products pertaining to various business domains in keeping with overall data and digital strategy of Novartis.
- Set LT strategy for the business, executing cross -Functional project plans through engaging their team members.
- Define functional goals and objectives as well as indicators of performance and quality metrics, identify opportunities, gaps and priorities, and contribute to best practice standards.
- Stay abreast of emergent applications and positively drive development of data and analytic capabilities globally and locally -Define standards and processes to manage quality, consistency, usability, security, and availability of data throughout the data lifecycle -Member of leadership team for their part of the organization; Outstanding Data Science mentor.
- Contribute to the development of Novartis data science capabilities.
- Serve as an ambassador for Novartis Data Science by presenting and publishing articles at conferences, business meetings and academic institutions -Collaborates with globally dispersed internal stakeholders and cross -Functional teams to define and solve critical business problems, drive operational efficiencies, and deliver successfully on strategic initiatives -Manage external data and analytic partners and collaborate closely with other data and analytic teams across Novartis.
- Ensures exemplary communication with all stakeholders including internal associates and senior business leaders across Novartis -Lead by example in promoting a collaborative and entrepreneurial culture and mindset.
- Be an agent for change and engage support for innovative ideas, methods, technologies, partnerships and solutions -Overall responsible for creation, growth and engagement of their Function and team.
Minimum Requirements:
Work Experience:
- An advanced degree (master's or doctoral) in a quantitative field including but not limited to Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Astro/Physics, Computational Chemistry, all relevant engineering and science disciplines
- 15+ years of relevant experience in Data Science.
- Track record delivering global solutions at scale.
- Has a strong professional network across Academia.
- 2+ years of relevant experience in Data Science.
