Summary

The Director Data Science will collaborate within US Innovative Medicines is the Novartis engine for achieving best in class Healthcare provider (HCP) experience and transformative digital patient engagement. The Enterprise Analytics and Data Science group within IDS is seeking a highly motivated machine learning/ AI expert and leader to push the frontiers in HCP segmentation and digital patient engagement. The person will possess deep technical expertise in AI/ machine learning and its applications in HCP and patient segmentation and behavioral analytics. In addition to being a technical expert, this person will also engage with commercial partners to bring meaning and context to analytic outcomes, driving actionability of learning and results. The person will partner with other data science organizations in Novartis to develop "best in class" methods/algorithms.

Location: The ideal location for this role is East Hanover, NJ site but remote work may be possible (there may be some restrictions based on legal entity). Please note that this role would not provide relocation as a result. If associate is remote, all home office expenses and any travel/lodging to specific NJ site for periodic live meetings will be at the employee's expense. The expectation of working hours and travel (domestic and/or international) will be defined by the hiring manager. This position will require some travel.

About the Role

Major accountabilities:

  • Lead the data science team in the development and implementation of innovative data-driven solutions that drive business growth
  • Lead the development and deployment of generative AI models, ensuring innovative solutions are implemented to drive strategic business outcomes, enhance data-driven decision-making, and foster technological advancements across various sectors.

  • Oversee the integration and application of large language models (LLMs), setting standards for model training, evaluation, and scaling, while ensuring ethical AI practices and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Manage and mentor the data science team to ensure the delivery of high-quality work
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science and identify opportunities to leverage these advancements to enhance our products and services
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of data-driven solutions

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data science, with 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Build and deploy scalable machine learning models using cloud-based services such as AWS and Azure
  • Strong understanding of deep learning algorithms, statistics, and recommendation system
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Spark, TensorFlow, and PyTorch
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to identify creative solutions to complex problems
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and mentoring data science teams
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $222,400.00 and $333,600.00 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
