PRIMARY FUNCTION: Prepare and assemble various launch system components and subassemblies to make canisters, chambers, closures, gas generators, rings, etc, where methods, sequences and tooling are normally established.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Power saw, abrasive blaster, steam cleaner, spray guns, air regulators, routers and cutters, paint mixer, hammer, pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, respirator, protective clothing, electric forklift, floor operated cranes, drill press taps, slings, drill bits, reamers, micrometers, templates, molds, safety glasses, fixtures and tooling, pneumatic and electric power tools, metal stamps, calipers, metric measuring tools, etc.
MATERIAL: Ferrous and nonferrous materials, canisters, shells, segments, flanges, paints, explosives, foam, nomex, fiberglass, resin, adhesives, gases, solvents, steam, tape, paper, rags, abrasives, etc.
WORKING PROCEDURE:
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.
1. Receive work assignments from supervisor.
2. Read and understand safety regulations and procedures and MI packages including drawings (in metrics), change notices, operation sheets, specifications and work authorizations. Check the inventory of parts against MI package.
3. Disassemble, clean and assemble components and subassemblies, such as chambers, segments, closures, rings, housings, shells, flanges, pads, etc., to manufacture products where fixtures are used for alignment or they are self-aligning and where tooling, methods and sequences are normally established.
4. Layout and mark reference lines on pads, segments, shells, flanges and tubes, etc., as specified, where templates and/or detail drawings are provided. Operate drills to drill and tap holes and cut material to size and length according to established procedures.
5. Cut, route, assemble, fit, mask, abrade, clean and install components, segments, tubing, flanges and pads. Measure, mix and apply adhesives/resins. Check relative humidity according to established procedures. Check calibration of adhesives mixing/dispensing machine and prepare test samples as specified.
6. Assemble components and operate testing equipment to conduct various pressure, weight and tensile tests according to specifications.
7. Check work for conformance to specifications, repair defects and clean, mask and apply finishes to components according to established procedures.
8. Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
9. Make proper time charge entries and record and maintain data as required.
10. Maintain in effect certifications for molding/mixing and applying adhesives and paints and take and pass periodic working and written tests.
Perform work of equal or lower skill as required.
This is a Union Represented position. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
* Minimum of 2 years' work experience in a manufacturing or maintenance environment focusing on assembly, disassembly, maintenance, repair, and rework
* Prior work experience operating manufacturing equipment to include hydraulic, mechanical, or rotational elements.
* Prior work experience with interpreting blueprints, sketches, manufacturing instructions and knowledge of GD&T.
* Minimum of 2 years' hands-on experience using measuring instruments such as indicators, calipers, micrometers, bore micrometers, torque wrenches, thread gauges and other hand tools
* US citizenship is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Prior work experience in Automotive, Naval or Aviation maintenance or manufacturing
* Prior work experience to operate cranes and forklifts.
* Prior work experience with SAP or other MRP
* Prior work experience with Microsoft suite
