Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has a contingent opening for an experienced Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer specializing in metallics, sealants and/or coatings for airframe structures to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. The position is located in Melbourne, Florida and will be filled at the Staff (T05) level.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production metallics or sealants & coatings issues
* Generates test plans & reports
* Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems
* Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes OR metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes
* Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications
* Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications
* Perform drawing reviews to ensure M&P requirements are satisfied
* May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures
* May travel to subcontractor locations
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 12 years of experience to include a background in metallics, sealants and/or coatings for structures; OR a Master of Science (MS) degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 10 years of experience to include a background in metallics, sealants and/or coatings for structures
* Experience with metal or composite fabrication and design
* Experience with repair processes for metal or composite materials
* Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.

* Degree discipline in Materials Science or similar
* Experience on aircraft structures
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to collaborate in a team environment
* Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously
* Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions
* Experience with military specs and standards
* Experience interfacing with a military customer
Salary Range: $147,700 - $221,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
