Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Engineer (Instrumentation Subsystem Design Lead) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test & Evaluation organization. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.
As a Design Engineering Lead supporting the Instrumentation & Data team, you will lead mechanical, routing, and electrical engineers to develop installation, assembly, and detail drawing Product Definition Packages (PDPs) across flight, ground, specialty, and lab test articles for the Instrumentation subsystem. This position requires a broad knowledge base across instrumentation, mechanical assembly, electrical harness assembly, installation methods, and flight test operations.
Note: This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Installations of mechanical PDPs including sensors (associated support brackets, tubing, etc.)
Equipment installations of system architectural elements (incl. data acquisition units, network switches, power distribution units, data recorders, cameras, transceivers, interface panels, and ground support equipment).
Lead design execution across multiple projects, test articles, and manufacturing sites in a high-pace mechanical, routing, and electrical engineering environment
Design secondary structures and aircraft details, assemblies, and installations using metallic and/or composite materials for new aircraft design and/or modifications to existing aircraft
Provide technical feedback and design support, host design reviews, and perform tech lead reviews in support of stakeholder release of PDPs
Employ GD&T and Model Based Engineering (MBE) methods in support of Digital Transformation to produce engineering definitions
Collaborate within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines.
Routing PDPs including electrical wire routing, feedthrough, penetration, and support bracket definition.
Electrical PDPs include wiring diagrams, schematics, and formboard/stick drawings.
The selected candidate will have the technical and soft skills to lead the team through all facets of the statement of work from Conceptual Layout Phase, Assembly Layout Phase, PDP Release, fabrication, installation and checkout, through Flight Test. You will ensure the design processes and procedures are properly trained across the workforce and followed in compliance with program engineering and process specifications. You must have strong adherence to PDP release efficiency and first-time quality design standards to support budget and schedule targets. Further, you will collaborate with subsystem responsible engineers, various IPTs, and design stakeholders to ensure PDPs meet requirements for each test article. You will be responsible for maintaining configuration management, engaging in program change boards, and supporting leadership in the identification of technical risks and opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 12 years of experience in engineering; OR Master of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 10 years of experience in engineering; OR PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university OR PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of experience in engineering.

Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with deliverable air vehicle equipment installations, sheet metal, machined, and composite part design, test pod design, and OML/IML installations
Familiarity with harness components, EMI shielding, proven commercial and mil-spec practices, and harness fabrication processes
Advanced degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
Proficiency with Siemens NX or similar 3D modeling software and/or Siemens Capital Logic, HarneSys, or AutoCAD electrical design software
Proficiency with Siemens Teamcenter or similar Product Lifecycle Management software
Understanding of GD&T and MBE methods
Ability to perform under minimal direction and independently determine and develop approach to solutions
Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels across IPTs and lead small teams

Salary Range: $147,700.00 - $221,500.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
