Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for the Chief Engineer position for the Common Mission Control Center (CMCC) program. This position supports a geographically diverse team and can be located in Rancho Bernardo, El Segundo, or Melbourne.

CMCC is physically based out of Beale AFB, California. Its purpose is to provide multi-domain battle management command and control of manned and unmanned assets in the highly contested environment (HCE). CMCC interoperate with Air and Space Operations Centers, Distributed Common Ground System, flying squadrons and joint forces to expose ISR & strike platforms through all F2T2EA phases using a Common Operating Picture (COP) that transmits to users at multiple classification levels.
CMCC is a service-oriented architecture-based system and incorporates software and capabilities from multiple vendors. It leverages open architecture (OA) principles and the universal command and control interface (UCI) standard as the communication framework between software components and external interfaces.
NG currently provides CMCC supporting hardware and software services, platform situational awareness and product dissemination, and tactical space-to-air effects. A successful Chief Engineer candidate will have awareness of larger NG capabilities and be able to build and maintain relationships with the NG Family of Systems.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as the definitive technical authority for all aspects of engineering on a program.
• Develop and maintain technical baseline
• Drive implementation and improvement of engineering best practices.
• Serve as the customer's technical point of contact, influencing decisions by clearly communicating technical concepts, challenges, and trade-offs.
• Lead the technical performance of a multi-disciplined engineering team accountable for cost, schedule, and quality, while satisfying all technical requirements including subcontracted elements.
• Direct and coordinate engineering activities throughout the system lifecycle (e.g., requirements development, hardware/software design, verification/validation, and sustainment).
• Own the verification approach and approval of system level requirement verification
• Collaborate with the engineering teams on NG Family of Systems platforms to facilitate mutual success for integration, preemptively identify risks to the programs, and build opportunities for additional sales.
• Mentor other senior technical contributors.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 14 years' engineering experience; 12 years with Masters; 10 years with PhD.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
• Strong understanding of Open Architectures with specific knowledge of OMS and UCI
• Must have an active, in-scope (most recent investigation within the last five years) DoD Top Secret Clearance and ability to obtain SCI
• Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access
• Requires ~25% travel per year
Preferred Qualifications:
• MS in Systems Engineering, Technical Management, or related fields.
• Top candidates will not only have significant Systems Engineering and management experience, but also possess technical breadth and experience in multiple mission areas, program phases, and systems engineering processes.
• Experience with one or more of the NGAS Strike Family of Systems
• Experience with Systems of Systems constructs
• Experience with Agile Software Development practices
• Experience with implementing and/or proposing changes to government standards
• Knowledge of the JADC2 and ABMS initiatives
Salary Range: *$158,200 - $274,700
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
