Sr. Principal Project Propulsion Engineer to join our SLS RSRMV and BOLE Motor Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Project Engineer team. This position will be supporting the Propulsion Systems Division at our facility located in Promontory UT.

Role Description and Responsibilities:
The SLS RSRMV and BOLE Motor Ground Support Equipment Project Engineer is responsible for technical project engineering planning and execution and is accountable to the SLS RSRMV and BOLE GSE Chief Engineer. Position supports all aspects of GSE, including tooling used to support production of RSRMV and BOLE boosters, tooling design, checkout, verification/certification, and production support. This position ensures that technical integrity of the related scope is achieved within cost and schedule constraints.
A Project Engineer leads a team of engineers, to perform work which crosses boundaries between design, systems, manufacturing, test, and quality engineering for completion of a technical project. She/He has responsibility to Chief Engineer/IPT leads. The project/responsible engineer uses established standard practices defined by the engineering directorate to accomplish the defined scope of work.
Over the next few years this candidate will help the SLS program oversee engineering creation and implementation of key support tooling, supporting production needs at Promontory as well as at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) including the Rotation Processing and Surge Facility, Vehicle Assembly Building, Launch Pad 39B and Booster Fabrication Facility.

Technical Project Planning and Logic Development. Coordinates with program management/Chief engineer/IPT leads to create a plan including the logic flow, milestones, etc., necessary to accomplish the assigned scope of work.

* Primary POC for coordination of technical plans, data sharing and issue resolution with chief engineer. Provide technical oversight of support organization(s)

* Collaborates with systems engineering to manage project technical requirements; ensures that the project requirements are captured, disseminated to IPT, and allocated; ensures that verification methods are appropriate and clearly defined in the specifications.

* Project-level scope execution tracking and control. Coordination of assignments with required technical teams and resources from supporting organizations

* Establishment of compliant design release and successful qualification / justification by ensuring proper reviews in accordance with policies, procedures and standards.

* Facilitates/oversees related change generation and management

* Supports Configuration Control Boards, Flight Review Boards and Material Review Boards (as required)

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of a BS in classical Engineering disciple or related closely field required

* BS degree with 8 years' experience, or MS degree with 6 years' experience or 4 years with a Ph.D.

Required Qualifications:

The selected candidate should have a working knowledge of solid rocket motors and launch systems and required support tooling with a minimum of 5 years of experience in design, analysis, process or systems engineering.

* Ability to travel: Travel expectation of 0% - 10%

* Strong knowledge of engineering design, analysis and test processes.

* Strong problem solving and project planning, scheduling and execution skills

* Excellent written and oral communication skills.

* Excellent time management and organizational skills.

* Detail oriented but able to understand and plan for the big picture.

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Project

Preferred Qualifications:A preferred candidate will possess a background in tool design or SRM design, development, processing and performance along with the following:

Strong and demonstrated communication, planning, project management and presentation skills

* Experience in requirements development, allocation, specification development, verification planning and reporting

* Experience with configuration management processes and practices, and supporting organization(s) execution management

* Manufacturing, test and flight support experience

Additional Requirements:

Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Salary Range: *$118,600 - $178,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
