Northrop Grumman's Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Sr. Principal EO/IR Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.
The selected engineer will perform as a member of an interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientists on a key effort to develop novel and innovative solutions to advanced technical problems. The successful engineer will contribute to the overall development of electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) systems, including developing, integrating, and applying system performance models, constructing, and testing demonstration systems, creating/refining/implementing system concepts and models, implementing test procedures, and verifying/validating system performance. You will design, develop, build, and test electro-optical systems in conjunction with key suppliers.
Responsibilities include:

Lead and/or support development and testing of electro-optical systems

Design and analyze EO/IR signal processing algorithms and software

Requirements analysis, development, allocations and tracking

Performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, running detailed trade studies, translating customer requirements into hardware and software specifications

Providing design assessments

Performing cost trades

Performing risk analysis and developing mitigation plans and tracking to closure

Managing suppliers, review and analysis of supplier design data, definition of functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, system integration, and support test execution

Identifying/planning/executing informal and formal testing of subsystem requirements in lab, troubleshooting hardware in the lab

Leading aircraft ground and flight test on subsystems to validate and verify subsystem requirement and sell-off

Leading technical discussions with the customer and having daily interaction with management, external personnel, customers, and various sub teams

Basic Qualifications:
Sr. Principal EO/IR Engineer (T04):

Must have a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 7 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. AND 4 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.

Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.

Knowledge of EO/IR phenomenology

Experience in lab testing, hardware/software verification, and concept development

Experience in the modeling of EOIR systems to assess performance

Preferred Qualifications:

Problem solving and troubleshooting skills

Good verbal and written communications skills for presentation of technical approaches, work performed, results, and findings

Ability to assimilate new concepts quickly and independently

Experience in EO/IR system and atmospheric modeling

Knowledge of digital image processing algorithms

Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody, etc.), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels

Ability to support discussions between multidisciplinary teams

Ability to regularly engage with senior stakeholders and program leads

Salary Range: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
