Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Virtual Simulation Software Engineer / Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and modifying software for use in pilot-in-the-loop simulation of combat weapons systems employment. The Virtual Simulation software is primarily written in C++ along with some applications in other high level programming languages (Java, Python, etc. ). The Virtual Simulation lab supports a relatively small, close-knit team of 12 software developers, 3 lab engineers, and 10-12 other regular users. This highly dynamic work environment requires software engineers with a diverse set of complementing skills, commitment to the small team dynamic, and a strong desire to learn new skills. Essential Functions:

Development of software to simulate real-time operations and behavior of systems for virtual simulation (pilot-in-the-loop) experimentation and requirements validation so that future tactical aircraft can be evaluated in next generation air warfare mission environments
* Developing new and/or integrating existing system simulation frameworks, weapon system components to include air vehicle platform, kinematics, sensors, weapons, command & control, and threat performance models and algorithms
* Collaborating with subject matter experts to develop computer simulations of aircraft and weapon systems and integrating those models with the larger simulation
* Integrating and using advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools
* Modeling operational environments and performing trade studies via computer simulation resulting in recommendations for system architectures and configurations
* May support the design and development of visualization models and databases for integration with a high-fidelity simulation environment

This position may be filled at either a Software Engineer or Principal Software Engineer Level. This role is contingent upon verification of DoD Clearance.
Basic Qualifications:

Software Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2 years of relevant experience or Master of Science in a STEM discipline
*
Principal Software Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of relevant experience or Master of Science in a STEM discipline with 3 years of related experience.
* Demonstrated proficiency with computer/engineering software development using C++ (preferred), C#, Java or other object-oriented computer language
* Must have an
active DoD Top Secret clearance with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation
* Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:

An understanding of tactical aircraft aero-performance, sensors, weapons, and/or communication systems
* An understanding of Integrated Air Defense Systems and capabilities
* An understanding of operational Command and Control systems and software
* Proven ability to work with a team in a rapid prototyping environment
* Competent writing and communication skills
* Experience performing weapon system level design, integration, or test & evaluation
* Ability to translate physics/mathematics models into real-time simulation algorithms
* Experience with real time simulation/software development
Salary Range: $77,200 - $115,800
Salary Range 2: $95,300 - $142,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
