Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector is seeking a Human Factors Engineer (HFE) to be responsible for human factors engineering and supporting Human Systems Integration (HSI) engineering activities. This HFE will serve as a key member of the HSI team for the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) Program and other Human Exploration Programs. The HFE will contribute to all HSI efforts on HALO including but not limited to; requirements engineering, technical planning, system engineering and integration, verification and validation, cost and risk assessments, and supportability/effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Directly contribute to Task and Human Error Analyses, Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) test planning/execution/reporting, worksite analysis, anthropometric analysis, crew operating loads analysis, and requirements allocation/interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Support all HALO HSI and HFE related deliverables, HITL oversight, and sub-contractor interaction to ensure successful crew interface design that reduces human error. Regular interaction with customer counterparts, system users, and different sub-system engineering disciplines to ensure user needs are represented in product design while meeting necessary requirements.

This position can be filled as a Principal (level 3) or Sr Principal (level 4).
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline
* 5+ years (level 3) or 8+ years (level 4) of Human Space Flight hardware and operations experience
* Proficiency delivering technical solutions/contributions to the completion of project milestones under minimal supervision, within schedule and budget and with presenting findings to customers and contractors at major milestone meetings
* Significant experience with Systems Engineering processes, engineering lifecycle, technical readiness levels, and technical evaluation with objective and subjective supportive data
* U.S. citizen
Experience with at least two of the following:

Human space flight operations
* Familiarity with Human System standards and specifications (MIL-STD 1472, NASA-STD 3001/3001)
* Requirement management from development through verification closure for human rated vehicles
* Human-centered Task and Error Analyses
* Anthropometric, Crew Loads, or Worksite Analysis
* User workload, cognitive assessments
Preferred Qualifications:

Significant experience with human data recording, processing, and reporting, in the form of Human-in-the-Loop testing derived from Human-Centered Task and Error Analyses
* Significant experience with Systems Engineering processes, engineering lifecycle, technical readiness levels, and technical evaluation with objective and subjective supportive data in a Human Spaceflight Program
* Experience with the interpretation and application of complex systems integration, systems safety, crew survivability, and habitability requirements to system design
* Understand systems and design thinking as well as Human Machine Interface/Human Computer Interface design principles and practices
* Experience with evaluation of anthropometric, human loading, user workload, and informational design
* Experience conducting structured human behavioral evaluations including human error analysis and physical layout analyses and design
* Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML, preferably Cameo or MagicDraw
* Familiarity with use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, preferably CREO Parametric
* Familiarity with the use of Virtual Reality systems to support human based evaluations
* Aerospace industry familiarity or firsthand experience
Salary Range: $107,000 - $150,000
Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $189,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
