The
Integrated Thermal Systems (ITS) Operating Unit is the world leader in two-phase thermal management of spacecraft and has more than 30 years of experience designing and manufacturing space-qualified products for various government, military, civil and commercial customers (Legacy Swales Aerospace).
ITS has the broadest portfolio of thermal solutions in the business and more flight heritage than any of our competitors. We tackle the industry's most challenging spacecraft thermal control problems and have the market differentiating capability of taking systems from concept, through design, thermal component fabrication, integration into honeycomb composite structure and through system level testing all on-site with no subcontractors.
Our business is growing. We currently operate out of a stand-alone facility in Beltsville, Maryland with plans to move to a new state of the art facility (currently under construction) in Hanover, Maryland in mid 2025.
Job Duties:

Create manufacturing plans for manufacturing team to ensure that overall quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved.

* Create and improve manufacturing work instructions to meet challenging hardware requirements.

* Establish a common design goal that is aligned with the as-bid program proposal and the best approach for manufacturability through TKO (Technical Kick Off).

* Communicate manufacturing plans and processes to internal and external customers through MRR (Manufacturing Readiness Reviews).

* Create and manage Engineering Bill of Materials.

* Review engineering designs and drawings for accuracy and manufacturability.

* Conceptualize and design manufacturing tooling when required to help support operations.

* Provide liaison to operations.

* Support real time manufacturing floor issues and resolve discrepant hardware through disposition for immediate remedy. Participate in root cause investigation for preventative corrective action.

* Specify all necessary special processes, equipment, and fixtures required for manufacturing on assigned programs.

* Participate in continuous improvement projects to improve manufacturing methods, efficiency, and product quality.

Level 3 Basic Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of related manufacturing engineering experience is required with a bachelor's degree. 3 years of related manufacturing engineering experience is required with a master's degree. 1 year of related manufacturing engineering experience is required with a PhD.

* Experience within a manufacturing environment.

* Proven multi-tasker and self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Experience in writing technical specifications or manufacturing work instructions.

* Proficient in reading engineering drawings and a good understand of GD&T (Geometric Design and Tolerancing)

* Proficiency with MS Office required; MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint

* Must be a US Citizen

Level 4 Basic Qualifications:

Minimum 8 years of related manufacturing engineering experience is required with a bachelor's degree. 6 years of related manufacturing engineering experience is required with a master's degree. 4 years of related manufacturing engineering experience is required with a PhD.

* Experience within a manufacturing environment.

* Proven multi-tasker and self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Experience in writing technical specifications or manufacturing work instructions.

* Proficient in reading engineering drawings and a good understand of GD&T (Geometric Design and Tolerancing)

* Proficiency with MS Office required; MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint

* Must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

Understanding of 5S and Lean Manufacturing experience a plus.

* Engineering experience in an ISO 9001 compliant manufacturing/fabrication work environment.

* Familiarity with 2-phase thermal systems, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics.

* Working knowledge of GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) and CNC (Computer Numeric Controlled) machining operations.

* Proficiency with CAD software (CREO Parametric).

* Experience within an aerospace manufacturing environment is preferred.

Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300
Salary Range 2: *$120,900 - $181,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
