Northrop Grumman Aeronautics System is hiring for a Section Manager to oversee an Aircraft Mechanical Design and Integration team in San Diego, CA. This position reports to the Department Manager of Vehicle Integration within the Vehicle Engineering Directorate of the Global Surveillance Division. The position currently would work in a Hybrid capacity, with the ability to work some days remotely during the work week.

Job summary: In this hands-on leadership role, you will lead a group of approximately 10-15 engineers responsible for the engineering design, integration, and installation of mechanical subsystems/mechanisms and providing support to multiple aircraft programs for development, production, test and sustainment in both unclassified and classified environments. You will spend up to approximately 20% of the time performing functional homeroom duties (including attending functional staff meetings, management of personnel and resources, and coordination of job assignments, staffing, and recruiting, performance conversations and mentoring/career discussions) with the remaining 80% performing technical work for program execution.

Responsibilities include:

Provides leadership and direction to the team members, engagement and mentorship

* Plans and coordinates to ensure members have sufficient statement of work, manage employee performance, and oversees section members' career development

* Provides support for training/resource needs, champions engineering discipline bench strength and cross-training opportunities where possible, and provides recommendations to leadership for process or efficiency changes/improvements

* Managing employee performance including engagement strategies for high performers and corrective actions for lower performers, and participates in salary review process working with program and functional leadership

* Responsible for coordinating with programs to ensure appropriate staffing/de-staffing actions are developed and executed

* Ensuring team is familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools

* Acts as the first point of contact for technical issues on programs involving section members and will make decisions regarding required escalation and resources required for resolution

* Day-to-day operations including employee movement and balancing of resources among programs, and resolving critical/urgent program/technical issues

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related professional/military experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in STEM discipline with 6 years of related professional/military experience

* Aircraft subsystems design and integration experience

* Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance

* Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) or PAR/SCI clearance within a reasonable amount of time, as determined by business needs

* Experience in leadership and managing engineers

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering from an accredited institution

* Prior management or engineering lead experience

* Current Secret clearance (or higher)

* Experience with industry standard design tools such as CATIA V5, NX, and Teamcenter Enterprise/Unified

* Proficient knowledge of manufacturing processes

* Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

* Experience with mechanical/mechanism design, analysis, production, test and sustainment

* An excellent communicator who works well in a team environment

Salary Range: $151,900 - $227,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
