The selected candidate will clearly demonstrate strong management skills and will have a track record as a motivated leader, an effective communicator, and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must.
He/She will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish team and department goals. He/she must also be well versed in aspects of Hardware Engineering as they will be leading a multi-disciplined team including mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and CM engineers.
This is a dual-role manager position, involving balancing both the overall Functional oversight and management of a Hardware Engineering group of 10 -15 engineers as well as performance of productive work on a program or several programs. The Manager will spend ~20% of their time on support of the organization and ~80% of their time on technical program work. The management side involves organizational administrative activities and helping their employees' performance and career development through guidance and training. The direct program work may include hardware engineering technical work, conducting design reviews, IPT leadership, consulting, proposal support, or any other appropriate technical function.
This position requires up to 100% on-site work due security constraints and an ability to pass an enhanced security review.
Responsibilities include:
-- Providing the people, processes and tools to meet the current and future needs of the programs and technologies within the portfolio
-- Supervising, mentoring, overseeing assignment, and supporting career development of employees in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and related disciplines supporting multiple programs
-- Providing functional oversight across multiple supported programs, including bid and proposal inputs for future work, independent technical reviews of major programs and R&D projects as well as organizational budget management
-- Establishing and maintaining discipline-specific processes and tools
-- Facilitating process improvement initiatives including the implementation and monitoring of engineering metrics and best practices.
Basic Qualifications:
-- BS degree and 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field
-- Proven experience in people- and technical-leadership roles in either program or functional environments
-- Working knowledge of engineering staffing, metrics, training, resources, processes, and tools
-- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbally and written) with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and individual contributors
-- Candidate must currently have and be able to maintain a full-time technical program role in addition to the management duties of this position.
-- Active Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
-- Master of Science in Engineering or Management
-- Experience leading diverse technical teams across multiple locations
-- Experience as a technical leader and visionary
-- Strong background in mechanical/electrical design, mechanical/electrical analysis, manufacturing
--Knowledge of Configuration Management and Configuration Management systems for control of hardware and firmware during the entire product lifecycle.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Northrop Grumman strives to offer a balanced work environment for our team members. This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80; the 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Other work schedules are frequently accommodated and may be arranged to support, for example, an employee's family commitments.
This position is contingent on the ability to maintain a DOD security clearance.
Salary Range: $156,500 - $234,700
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
